    City: Tevez,

United: Rooney could've been if he had been fit all season

This is the bit where you disagree with my selections and then name several LFC players as being as good, or better than those above.

And it'll go round and round in circles

Easiest thing would be to just accept that we might have a difference of opinion and agree to disagree.
    Edited for you

Don't confuse great consistent players for game 'changers'. I've seen nothing of RvP or Berbatov to suggest that they change the tempo of a game with their introduction. Our 1st team next season will be much improved from the one of last season and as such the better players will have less pressure on them. Collectively we'll shine.

We may have different definitions as to what we mean, but for me, the kind of player i'm talking about is someone who'll win a game for you, often out of nothing, when it's not looking like you're going to get the points. And someone who can do it fairly consistently. I think Berbatov did that on a few occasions last season. And RvP definitely can do that, albeit he needs to actually play a decent amount of games

        Of course we can.

My comment on 'how we could think we can succeed' was meant in general terms across the season, rather than about the Sunderland game.
Later in the season we'll have Gerrard & Suarez so don't worry about that either

I'm obviously delighted with having Gerrard and Suarez (or Gerrez as i might call them ). But i think we need more than just two of this level of player. Especially when, as could be the case with Gerrard, one of them is looking like he may struggle with fitness/injuries.

My point is that it is possible to succeed without that type of player. think Chelsea possess a squad of great players who all perform regularly and some of whom have a decent amount of flair. You my well be right that Arsenal have a game changer in RvP, but the rest of the team let him down for whatever reason. I think we have two game changers, and the balance of the team is great. We're behind Utd but there's no reason not to believe we can't challenge with the squad we now have

I honestly dont think any team wins the title (or perhaps even gets into the top 4) without at the very least 2-3 of these players. If i thought it was possible or plausible, i wouldnt be so bothered about us only having two of them

If we've got the minimum requirement of them* to win the league. That'll do for me

                  Mr John Henry

someone should start a season 2011-2012 thread. We can talk about everything to do with our season in there,no?
                  (Hopefully it's a very good season )

I think we need both consistent performers and game changers. No matter how consistent the team may be, it would impossible to keep up a really good level of performance throughout the season. Game changers and luck also play a major part in winning titles.

It's early days and we haven't seen how our new signing will gel but I am also of the opinion like Craig we need at least one more player in our starting 11 that can single-handedly influence the game and in our present lineup with exception of Suarez we really don't have that type of player.

I am also concerned that all our signings seems to be done in the hopes of getting the best of Carroll and wonder what happens if we doesn't deliver what many expect from him.

Time will tell but I do think we need little more quality all around.

I think we have another in Charlie Adam. Not in the way that Messi can change games, but in the same way that Xabi could change games. And Aquilani.

Although I have also said that we could do with another match winner in the squad, we won’t know how much of a necessity until we see how Kenny set’s up and how our new signings perform.

The year we came second, Gerrard missed near a quarter of the season and Torres nearly half, so if you have the right system and the right players for the system then you don’t necessarily need an individual match winner as such.

Just noticed there that Torres only made 20 league starts for us in the previous two years before we sold him. £50m
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
