Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Must say I agree with you entirely about Agger. I see what people like about him but is he really a brilliant defender? I remember him having one pretty horrible game at left back a couple of seasons ago and while obviously played out of position, I thought he was really poor on the ground, easily turned, easily beaten for pace... Is he really that great at these things in his natural position? Aerially dominant? Positionally aware? And anytime anyone tries to criticise him on here, someone else is always blamed - he was covering for Insua etc...Originally posted by Kenneth View PostNot great overall. Bit controversial, but I'm not totally convinced that Agger is as good as is made out. He's a classy player but the sentiment seems to be that he is a world class player hampered by injuries. Still, I agree that he probably is out beat CB at the moment.
So, agree, one more CB (who isn't Scott Dann) still needed.
I really like him and want to like him more - I think he's a bit of a mad ******* and has plenty of balls and skill but sometimes I think he overestimates himself as do mnay fans. If the medical team can get him right - his injuries have been ****ers of ones and maybe possible to overcome completely like that back one - I'd love to see him get a full season under his belt and prove me wrong.
As for the rest - I find it hard to honestly rate Carra anymore. He went down a lot in my estimation during the bleak Hodgson era. I have full confidence in his organisational abilities and his reading of the game but he is definitely on the way out. He's starting to seem like the guy who gives everyone else a bollocking for his own mistakes.
Soto - **** it keep him. Just don't play him with Carra.
Or Skrtel. Never been convinced by him I'm afraid.Felching ≠ Gerbilling

Carra - Time for the bench, thanks for the memories.
Agger - Viking, needs to stay fit.
Skrtel - Our best defender, should start every game, beast.
Soto - Good in the air, not much else.
Kelly - Future starter at center back.
Wilson - Forget it, sell.
Wisdom - Physical alien, destined to be a beast.
Sama - See above.EST1992's #1 Poster boy.

I don't see that to be honest. He's a decent all round defender but I don't think he excels at anything, he still seems prone to mistakes. He's a good back up option but I think we need someone better as first choice. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Hull are sniffing around trying to buy young Ayala and i thought he was highly rated by some on here ?
So I've probably forgotten some but to my knowledge here's our CB's and I'd like to know where you rate them in order of being ready to play in our first team.
1.Carra (No1 for now but needs replacing soon)
2. Agger ( a must when fit )
3. Skrtel (ever present last season but injured at present and handy )
4. Kyriagos (last year for him I'm sure )
5. Wilson ( could be ready one day ?)
6. Kelly ( yet to be seen at CB but some think he's doing his apprenticeship at RB )
7. Ayala ( I thought another year or so on loan would see him push on ) SOLD
8. Wisdom ?
9. Sama ?
So who have I forgotten and where do you rate them in order .
I do think we need one CB now with Carra getting older, Agger's injury record and the Greek's age all lead to at least 1 new player being needed.
Paves the way for Cahill maybe ??Ayala Sold
Guess Kenny and Commolli dont see him as making the grade.
From the Offal.
Liverpool today agreed a fee with Hull City for the transfer of Daniel Ayala.
The Championship club have now been given permission to discuss personal terms with the defender.

I don't think selling Ayala makes any difference to whether we will bring in another centre back (Cahill or someone else). Ayala is a reserve player and wasn't getting games so his sale makes no difference to first team options. IMO we needed another centre back whatever happened. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

He's an excellent defender, very much underrated because he's so good going forward.Originally posted by badpiggy View PostMust say I agree with you entirely about Agger. Our defensive stats with and without him was scary at some stage last season. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Thoughts ??The German international centre-back Liverpool should consider for £6million
81Share
Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for a new centre-back this summer. The likes of Scott Dann and Gary Cahill continue to be targets as these two tie in with FSG’s policy of buying British talent. But I feel we should look at breaking this policy and sign Werder Bremen’s captain Per Mertesacker.
The 26-year-old German international centre-back is being made available by the club for a fee thought to be £6million as he is now in the final year of his contract and there is very little chance that he will want to stay at Werder Bremen as the club is a ‘sinking ship’. They just got dumped out of the German Cup in the first round by a lower league team.
Bremen general manager Klaus Allofs is quoted as saying in The People: “We are willing to discuss a transfer for Per.
“We have promised him we will listen to serious offers.”
Arsenal are also reportedly interested in Mertesacker as they too are also in need of a new centre-back. Liverpool would have to move quickly if we are to make a move for him. What are your thoughts on Mertesacker? Do you think he would be the rights signing for Liverpool?Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.
