If Suarez has a friendly in the week I'd play Maxi behind Carroll with Kuyt on the right. Otherwise ditto.

Having thought about it, I'd be tempted to start with Spearing who has been good in preseason, seems unfair to start with Lucas after his 45 mins. maybe sub Spearing for Lucas at 55 mins.

Although some rags have been saying that Lucas is looking to leave so the headlines would be predictable if wee jay did start and Lucas was on the bench

I guess Henderson or Aqualani will slot in there, although it wouldn't suprise me if Kenny just threw Luis in at the deep end. Even not fully fit he's still by far and away our best player. I'll be astonished if he's not at least on the bench.

That's a balanced, hard-working and solid, if unspectacular, team. Bags of Premier League experience in there.

Perhaps given that Suarez has been away on international duty and hasn't done as much pre-season traing as the others, perhaps we should bring Suarez off the bench for the last 20-30mins and get him running at Sunderland's defence when they are starting to tire. This would allow us to not push him too hard but also perhaps maximise his impact.

Thought Aurelio was excellent against Valencia, hope he starts. Him and Enrique with Robinson as back-up would be ideal for the season.

Agger is a fantastic footballer, even yesterday when he got caught up field after a corner. The ball came to him and he was totally composed, dropped the shoulder - couple of shimmy's, popped a sweet pass out to the wing and we were back on the attack.

Was it 2007 when he last had a pretty much full season. I seem to remember he was given a bit of a chasing from Drogba in the Champs League semi final 1st leg, and then turned in a masterclass of a performance in the return leg at Anfield, where Drogba threw himself to ground theatrically for 120 mins.

This is the best chance Agger and Aurelio will have to stay fit for a season

If Agger can only do 15-20 games again I'd say we should sell or accept he'll never be a first choice center back. You can't build a central defence knowing one of the two will only play half a season.
