I guess that could be a possibility, I thought appeals against red cards were dealt with very quickly though (although I could be wrong) and it's FA charges that take a while to be dealt with, hence Song might be available. I guess it's too early in the season to judge the way things will work this year...Originally posted by Mostar View PostI think what Craig is saying that if they appeal he may be still available for the game on Sunday and then serve his suspension the following week or after, not that they could win the appeal.
Basically buying the time approach.
In appealing don't they risk a longer ban? If so they would be stupid to appeal because IMO this is cut and dry, if the FA reduce the ban for this then they will open the floodgates for appeals. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think that's definitely true, as the red card was a straightforward decision (like the one for Kieran Richardson SHOULD have beenOriginally posted by Exiled_red View PostI guess that could be a possibility, I thought appeals against red cards were dealt with very quickly though (although I could be wrong) and it's FA charges that take a while to be dealt with, hence Song might be available. ), so i'm sure if Arsenal appealed, it would be considered a frivolous appeal and as such, result in probably a 4 game ban. That's the one thing which makes you think Wenger wont appeal it.

The idea a couple of seasons ago was for bans to take effect immediately and any "frivolous" appeals, designed to delay the ban in the way Craig suggests, can be punished like you say.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostI guess that could be a possibility, I thought appeals against red cards were dealt with very quickly though (although I could be wrong) and it's FA charges that take a while to be dealt with, hence Song might be available. Although the FA aren't known for consistency so anything might happen.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Good point they may want to review the entire incident from the start to the finish cause if Barton didn't "pick up" Gervinho the way he did nothing would've probably happened and the slap in the face I am not so sure he did that deliberately either.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostI guess that could be a possibility, I thought appeals against red cards were dealt with very quickly though (although I could be wrong) and it's FA charges that take a while to be dealt with, hence Song might be available. Also I was under the impression (I could be wrong) that he doesn't need to start his suspension immediatelyLast edited by Mostar; 14-08-11, 01:29 PM.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

I think it's automatic and immediate unless the club appeal.Originally posted by Mostar View PostAlso I was under the impression (I could be wrong) that he doesn't need to start his suspension immediately.

You can't look at things like that though, all they can do now IMO is decide that Barton should receive additional punishment if they feel the referee didn't see him pick Gervinho up (which I supect is what will probably happen)Originally posted by Mostar View PostGood point they may want to review the entire incident from the start to the finish cause if Barton didn't "pick up" Gervinho the way he did nothing would've probably happened and the slap in the face I am not so sure he did that deliberately either.

I think the ban is now immediate, a few years ago it too a week or so to come through, but they changed that a few years ago.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

My point was that they may appeal with similar type of reasoning in mind with intentions of buying time not to reverse the previous decision but I guess there is always the possibility that 2-game ban could be increased as result of the appeal.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostYou can't look at things like that though, all they can do now IMO is decide that Barton should receive additional punishment if they feel the referee didn't see him pick Gervinho up (which I supect is what will probably happen)

I know what you mean but it would seem crazy to me for them to risk it.Originally posted by Mostar View PostMy point was that they may appeal with similar type of reasoning in mind with intentions of buying time not to reverse the previous decision but I guess there is always the possibility that 2-game ban could be increased as result of the appeal.

Having said that it does appear Wenger is cracking up so I guess anything could happen

I wouldn't be surprised if Aquilani didn't have a driving license. There is no way he could pass the number plate test with his eyes.Originally posted by Muddled View PostGlen Chester Johnson with the Bentley.
