Can't for the life of me understand why we decided to completely abandon out passing game in the second half. They were all awful in the second half

Based on the first proper game of the season??..

Nope based on the fact that Carroll has been very average since he joined us. £35 million. Oh christ.

Downing for £20 million. Jeez he is a £10m player at best.

Henderson for £16m. He is very hard working etc but he will not change or dominate games.

Adams is ok but lacking in athleticism and cutting edge.

Enrique is no better than good.

These are not players to get us into teh Champions League and they will get us nowhere near challenging for the league. They are simply not good enough and we have massively overspent on them.

The signing of Carroll has screwed up our transfer dealings (as everyone now thinks we are minted and have to pay over the odds), and he is a one dimensional forward.

More frustration awaits me thinks........

I think we ran out of steam to be honest.I dont think squad fitness is what it should be at this stage.

I hope thats all it is cos that problem will solve itself.First half we were brilliant so if its just fitness that prevented that from continuing then we'll be alright.

Still can't understand why we bought Henderson though.Just don't see where he fits in at all

i thought in one sense the second half was almost a case of too many cooks. it seemed like everybody wanted to take the game to sunderland, or everybody wanted to pass responsibility on to the next guy. whichever was happening at the moment, everyone was doing it, and it fluctuated between the two states. in my eyes, it's just a result of not knowing one another that well yet. adam and downing really looked like they wanted to get something going, but both took the wrong decisions, holding on when they should have passed, and vice versa (see earlier point in post). wildly encouraging first half of course, although i thought that despite suarez' explosiveness, he had a very heavy touch with his feet today.

the team was never in anything but a transitional period. roll on the arse.

also yes, obviously fitness was an issue.

The most disappointing thing about today was how we reacted when Larsson scored the goal. For me that was the turning point because the team reacted with long balls and stopped the fantastic movement they showed in the first half. When Suarez came off there where even less movement.

First half looked very well, and we hit the ground running. Downing, Adam and Enrique had a good debut in that half, Henderson a bit mixed for me.

I'm not really buying in to the fitness story, IMO it had more to do with how the team reacted mentally than they lost steam physically (with the exception of Suarez perhaps).

Not the result hoped for, but again could have been worse than a draw against Sunderland - at least it wasn't an inflatable ball that gave them a draw this time.

Considering 6 of the starting line up weren't at the club, and another was in the reserves, this time last year, that wasn't a bad performance. It'll take a while for them to gel.

That said, the fitness in the second half was very disappointing.

It may only be the first game but its stiill a home game against a mid-table team that we should be winning without any excuses. They didnt have much trouble gelling lin the first half so theres no excuse for the second half performance. Sunderland have made new signings too and yet they finished the game stronger than us. Its just not good enough, with the squad we had available today we should have won it comfortably
