For the first time ever yesterday, Jamie Redknapp made a comparison that I kind of agreed with. Said Adam reminded him of Gascoigne, and I think that's a much better comparison than Xabi Alonso. Obviously not in Gascoigne's class but he has a bit of Gazza about the way he plays. Good start for Charlie.

Really? I was thinking of calling him Xabi Adam. He ran the play well, and those shots from centre of the pitch just had to remind you of Alonso

Posted on YNWA. Sums it up, for me:

I'm sensing quite a few looking to find fault on the back of what is a real achievement of a result . Ffs we haven't won there for 11 years, and that was the first time I can remember us looking dominant at Arsenal in living memory.

The media have played up Arsenal's injuries but I suspect only Gibbs, Wishere and Song would definitely have started that game out of those not avaiable. We had Johnson and Gerrard who would have started and both are better than the players they missed, and Suarez wasn't deemed fit enough for 90 minutes.

It was an evenish game, but so what, this was quality opposition on their own turf.

For a 'work in progress ' we look in good shape, and to start without Suarez, Gerrard, Meireles and Johnson and not look 'weakened' shows the depth in quality we now enjoy.

                Those shots were uncanny.

No I don't really see him as particularly Xabi-esque.

I think he's more attacking minded than Xabi Alonso.
                    Are we winning?

Well it doesn't reallly matter who he reminds people of, what matters is we now have a quality deeplying playmaker to play alongside Lucas.

This isn’t a veiled criticism of Carroll, but having watched the game back I honestly think we’d have been a lot more comfortable of we’d had a better CF on the pitch or if Carroll had even played a bit better.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I know this is a forum and without discussion would be rendered pointess but how anyone can be in anyway negative about yesterday is beyond me. Keep the criticism of certain players for another time there was far too much to praise yesterday. To take 52% possession of Arsenal on their own pitch is something to be proud of regardless of whoever did/didn't start for them. Just rewatched the whole thing and when you have the security blanket that is knowing the final score you see a different game. We were hungry all over the pitch and you could sense a real team ethic and togetherness from our lads.Great result/performance IMO.
I have one word to offer - honesty. I couldn't be devious if I tried. Joe Fagan.

I honestly dont know how much more comfortable people can expect things to be, away to Arsenal.

i think the fact that, that was not arsenal as we have known them plays some part in it.

i didnt think we looked great. Or that it was a great performance. What we did do is get three points for the first time in 11 years against what was an ordinary looking arsenal.

also they went down to 10 men.

on the other side. we are a team that is building and bedding players in. So happy with the points. There is still lots to work on but i reckon thats what we will be doing on the training ground.

If we had of scored earlier, then contained Arsenal as well as we did then maybe some people would have gave us more credit. If Suarez was fit enough to start or if Torres was still here, I think we would have scored earlier.
