They had one proper chance, which came about via a foul that the idiot ref didnt give.

And it was ARSENAL AWAY. Not Swansea, not Wigan, not Norwich. Arsenal.

Supposing the red card hadnt happened and we had drawn - you're talking as if a draw at Arsenal away would've been a bad result. It wouldnt, even a draw would've been a decent/good result, for Arsenal away.

    Yet, we won.
Come on now Craig, remember if you score two against Swansea you're the best player in the world... ever!

I just dont know what people want really, we'd not won there in 11 years, and we not only managed it yesterday, but were the better side. I think asking for much more than that away at Arsenal is being a touch greedy I doubt many sides will go there, out-possession them, create far more chances than them and beat them comfortably, like we did.
I think some people want to be Man City...

I think the reason you shy away from the comparison is because he is so much worse at all of the things he would have to do to excel in that role. On the other hand it took Alonso some time to really nail how to play the role in the PL and he is one of the best players in the world.
Gascoigne was never quick either but had an initial burst in which he used a little bit of acceleration plus strength, use of the arms to fend people off and sheer desire which I've also seen in Adam.

I've just watched the replay and I've gotta mention that Henderson sure has a motor on him. He pops up all over the place ala Stevie G. I was very impressed with his work ethic and he links up so well and should only get better. That's all.

To me he needs to make better judged (and perhaps fewer) runs. I think his energy could be a key component of the way we play - allowing quick balls out of defence. His runs however don't always make him easy for players to find.

I'm not convinced but I will certainly bear this in mind next time I watch him. In many ways I think it is the 'sheer desire' part that doesn't quite chime with my recollections.

Whether they find him or he takes the defender away with him, it's all the same as he'll make space for others. I think he'll prove to be a very intelligent player for us Dave .

This.......made the comments during the match thread that I thought he was playing well. Moving about the pitch, getting into positions to receive, tracking back when needed..............its just a lot of the time, options were just used up and we eased off our attack. Plus Carroll wasn't winning as many knockdowns/layoffs are we would have hoped which mitigated some of the runs he made.
Probably should have done better with his header after great work from Enrique and Kuyt (excellent run from Carroll as well to take two defenders with him), but it was a decent performance from him 7/10

I was looking at his passing stats on the Guardian chalkboard. What is a bit worry is that against Sunderland, he only made one pass in the final quarter of the pitch and it was backwards and against Arsenal his only input past the 18 yard line was again two back passes. Arsenal was definitely an improvement on Sunderland though, so hopefully as his confidence grows, so too will his influence in the final third.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I guess it's one of those things I would have to see again to assess his part in fully but I really thought we moved the ball out of our defensive third pretty poorly. Part of that was down to having Kuyt as one of the 'first receivers' a lot of the time to avoid Arsenal's central three but I thought the movement in general of the midfield (and Carrol) didn't help. Perhaps it is a combined Carrol, Henderson, Kuyt problem or maybe he is completely guilt free.

I hope you are right as he certainly seems to have a lot of good qualities and could knit our team together nicely.

I didn't think we played particularly well but overall our defence held up really well as a unit. Better result than performance IMO.
I watched the game live out here in the Land of Smiles and then read all the UK Sunday papers' reports of the match.

One of them works out who was the best passer, best tackler etc in the Premier League and it turns out that Lucas, who you say had a poor game, was actually the Premier League's top tackler at the weekend. So in his position he was more successful than his equivalent in all the other teams.

I thought Lucas was very good and did his usual grossly under-rated shift of breaking up attacks - and better than anyone else achieved in other games.

The overall performance was also very good. On TV out here it said that in the first half, when Arsenal had 11 players on the pitch, we had 66% of the possession. We were very rarely troubled by Arsenal in the entire match and won a shade cosily. And for all those who say Arsenal were under strength they still had Van Persie up front, supported by Walcott, Ramsey, Nasri and Arshavin behind, so their attacking line-up was formidable on paper.

For what it's worth Walcott was awarded worst player accolade - for all the games played, not just in our game. Reflects well on Enrique's performance

Put 2 past Szczesny who hadn’t previously conceded a goal and has having one of his best games in goal for Arsenal according to the commentators. We contained one of the Premierships best attacking teams and rarely looked like conceding. We also created a few other chances that we should have maybe did better with (Meireles, Henderson, Kelly). And all this was away from home without our two best players for most of the match.
