Meh, we're through anyway, and these lads are actually decent to watch. 4-1, doesn't flatter them in the least.

Some proper **** defending from our lads plus some really good play from Sporting. Can we get Sporting again in the next round? I hope not.
        We come not to play.

Just saw the whole game on Sky+. The difference in the level of football is shocking, eye-watering in fact. Anyway here are my comments on aspects of the game:

Borrell/Segura - They've been here two years now and have the best Academy set up in the land. I'm beginning to question if they 'got lucky' in Barcelona because I'm not seeing any of that football in our youngsters. Maybe this NextGen is what they needed to drill this into the young guns.

English Football - Plodding, long ball, sh*te. End of.

Connor Coady - Never been impressed with him. Not just this game but I don't actually know what he does. He has no ball control, no vision and hides away from the ball. Nothing like Gerrard which he was once hoped to mimic.

Our defence - Sama and McGiveron are one of the worst centre back pairings I have seen in any level of football. Wisdom should be there and we need to promote a ball playing CB in the Agger mould.

Passing - Noticeable difference in Sporting's release of the ball and our frustrating tendency to hold and run down blind alleys. Come on Borrell what are you teaching these guys, honestly?

Ngoo - Some of his first touches were fantastic. The marker was often on his arse when just Ngoo's first touch took him away. His size hides his true abilities.

Sterling - Found out now. There's a Sterling hanging around every street corner in Portugal/Spain/Brazil. Raheem will now need to up his game or he'll head the same way as Pacheco/Nemeth.

Adjoran - See above. But even less chance of making it.

Sao Pinto - Egotistical. For each lovely goal scored he went into a LookAtMe pose instead of applauding the player(s). Good footballer, better coach, but sh*t role model and a smarmy git.

Glen "Nothing's gonna change my love for you" Medeiros - Great singer, that one hit alone should have gone platinium. Seriously talented youngster and has deceptive pace too. Will end up at Barca, Real or Manure.
          One tit for another.

I must say the one thing that did stick in my mind was watching Sporting knock the ball about for what felt like 5 minutes, controlling play, we managed to intercept the ball and the second touch was a hoof upfield (the time when the Sporting defender hand balled it).

            Very disappointing.

I think you are being harsh on Coady as he seems a very good all round player. I also read an article not too long ago that hinted that his long-term future at the club will be back at CB, so he could prove to be the ball player at the back you are hoping for.

Does he not play his England games at CB or does he do both?

Aye, they did look a different class to us which is disappointing.

I think we have a tendancy to scud our best young players. As soon as we start lavishing them with praise, they go off the boil. Adjoran was quietly going about his job while Suso was getting all the praise and adulation, now that big things are expected from him he’s nowhere near as consistent.

            OK.

Liverpool U18s produced another superb display on their travels as they secured a 3-1 win at Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.

Mike Marsh's youngsters were looking to bounce back following last weekend's disappointing loss against Bolton and they did it in style courtesy of goals from David Moli, Jordan Lussey and Jack Dunn.

The result means the Reds remain unbeaten away from home this season and pick up three points that will give them a significant lift ahead of the forthcoming clash at Man United on Friday.

The visitors bossed the contest throughout and could have stolen in front on four minutes but no-one was on hand to fire in the rebound after Josh Sumner's shot was spilled by Angus Gunn.

City responded and Tyrell Belford did well to thwart Adam Drury before Alex Henshall's cross-shot was brilliantly cleared by Matty Regan.

The hosts were beginning to find openings and Drury wasted a glorious chance to put them ahead when he fired straight at Belford.

This miss seemed to inspire life into the Reds and after Lussey hit a free-kick into the wall they should have opened the scoring on 26 minutes.

The ball broke to Moli inside the six-yard box but when the forward miscued it presented an even more inviting opportunity for Regan. The centre back struck the ball cleanly but saw his effort arrow wildly wide of goal from point-blank range.

Next, Dunn fizzed just off target before the away side broke forward with devastating effect on 32 minutes.

Belford's quick-thinking throw found substitute Nathan Quirk on the left wing. The midfielder, who had just replaced the injured Sumner, hit a superb outside of the foot pass down the line to find the clever run of Dunn. The England U17 star raced through before unselfishly teeing up Moli who made no mistake from eight yards.

Dunn then saw a low free-kick beaten away at the near post by Gunn and Regan headed a corner over as Liverpool ended the half on top.

City were always going to respond after the interval but the visitors continued to produce a display worthy of their lead.

With defences on top, chances were at a premium until another fine move saw Liverpool double their lead on 59 minutes.

Moli did well down the right before crossing to the far post where Lussey ghosted in to fire home a clinical finish.

Both Dunn and Moli then wasted openings before City were given a lifeline on 76 minutes when Regan was harshly penalised for handball.

However, Belford produced a smart save low to his right to keep out Albert Rusnak's spot-kick.

With time ticking away Liverpool continued to threaten and they made it three four minutes later when Moli set up Dunn to beat Gunn with a low drive. It was the perfect way for the youngster to celebrate his 17th birthday and capped a final overall performance from Marsh's charges.

To their credit, City kept pushing until the end and they grabbed a consolation three minutes from time.

Liverpool U18s: Belford, McLaughlin, Pelosi, Rafferty, Regan, Aylmer (Baio 65), Peterson, (King 76) Dunn, Moli, Sumner (Quirk 21), Lussey. Unused subs: Wearing, Wilson.

I bought myself an E season ticket and I keep forgetting about these games.

Sounds like a decent win. City had a good side before the Arabs took over. Don't know what they're like now they have money though.

Aye, I knew it was on but forgot to watch it too.

City's youth seem to have went to the dogs though which is a surprise. They have got duffed in every Next Gen game too.

I don't think it's much of a surprise at all tbh. I mean how's any kid going to get a chance there with two world class/very good players covering every position?

They had one of the best youth teams in England before the takeover and I remember saying to a mate, just wait and see how many come through now.

I thought Citys youth players were being bigged up a couple weeks ago, I'm sure alot of them played for the 1st team in the cup, maybe they were the slightly older but not old enough group
                      RIP IRWT post/rant, best ever
