Glen Johnson faces five more weeks out

Glen Johnson is facing another extended spell on the sidelines for Liverpool and England after aggravating a hamstring injury in the defeat at Stoke City.

The Liverpool right-back made his first appearance of the season at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday, as an 81st-minute substitute for Martin Skrtel, having been out for five weeks with a hamstring problem suffered in a pre-season friendly against Valencia. Johnson damaged the hamstring again during the cameo appearance and, though Liverpool do not expect to receive the results from his medical assessment until Tuesday, the recurrence is likely to rule the 27-year-old out of Kenny Dalglish's plans for a similar period.

Johnson confirmed on his Twitter page: "Can't believe my luck at the mo. Done my hamstring again. Hopefully be back soon."

The defender's absence is a setback for both club and country, with England travelling to Montenegro for the game that could secure qualification to Euro 2012 on 7 October. Dalglish was also without Martin Kelly at Stoke due to a hamstring strain and the England Under-21 international remains a doubt for Sunday's visit to Tottenham Hotspur. The Liverpool manager does have the emerging young defender John Flanagan available but opted for the aerial strength and experience of Skrtel against Tony Pulis's side.

That rug really tied the room together.

Seems to be a nothing article that's guessing the length of time Johnno will miss. Meh, I've full confidence in Kelly to step in but I'd worry if young Flanno (good player just too young) or one of our centre backs have to play out of position against Bale.

We couldn't possibly be better covered in that area either. It's slightly worrying how much time Kelly and Johnson seem to spend out injured.

Will Kelly be fit for the Spurs game?

What is with players signing new contracts and being out injures straight away

Add to the fact that he was out for a long time during pre-season. Lack match practice

I doubt we will see a decent Glen Johnson until Jan/Feb

Kelly may be close but after GJ re-injuring himself I doubt Kenny will rush him in.

We'll need to play either Skrtel or Carra as RB against Spurs.

Another option could be Flanagan but I'm not sure if Kenny thinks he is ready after poor start against Sunderland.

I fear Spurs as Lennon will create issues for whoever starts.

I think im more dissapppointed by the fact that kelly is out rather than johnson getting injured! i would rather have kelly in the team when the two are fit!!

Depends who we're playing. A fit Glen Johnson would have been handy against Stoke.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

He hasn't had the best of luck with injuries since joining us. IIRC, prior to him joining us he rarely seemed to get injured.

Shame that Kelly seems to be just as troubled.

It's really annoying FFS. We looked overstocked at RB if owt at the beginning of the season, but 2 are injured & 1 is struggling for form. For Spurs, whoever it is should defo have Kuyt in from of them to protect.
                              3rd place. Worst champions ever.
