Point about Bale v Skrtel today.

It isn't just about pace. Skrtel's positioning and tackling were utter turd all afternoon, and that's what did for him and us rather than Bale being just a speed merchant.

        Mata looks f*cking class.

On the other hand Sturridge is a selfish one footed tw@t and I'm glad we didn't get him. He's had his purple patch.

I'd even have been tempted to play Jack Robinson at right back or even switching him with Jose Enrique to play his natural position. He showed against Arsenal last season he has brilliant pace and he had Walcott dealt with. Would have been a risk but not as much as having Skrtel on. That was a terrible decision against Gareth Bale. He is the better prospect than Flanagan in my opinion.

Wouldn't write off Flanagan just yet. Every youngster has to learn and Flanno showed brilliance last season. Once he learns that positioning is everything in the prem he'll come back stronger.

Good shout. I was also thinking about that too but still think Flanagan should have been our first choice today.

Oh well. It's in the past and we need to pick ourselves up fast and move on.

If we can win next 6 (and we should be able to as we play Wolves, ManU, Norwich and Swansea at home and Everton and WBA away) before play Chavs away we should be fine.

That's because he's not a right back, and has only played about 3 or 4 games in that position.

The skrtle issue is a difficult one for kenny to make...but I can understand why he might have gone with skrtel over flannagan... I have no issue gambling and picking either of them. The problem and this is where kenny has got this criminally wrong is that against Gareth bale, away from home... Dirk kuyt has to start to offer his experience and work rate... Regardless of who is right back... Even if we had Johnson or Kelly available, I'd still have played kuyt in front of them to give that extra protection....

Kuyt was a bad miss today. His running, harrying and fitness levels to get up and down to protect the back would have made a difference.

It was just completely, completely wrong in every way today.

At least this **** happened early season. Lets hope the club learns from it.

It's fine making the decision to play Skrtel at right back.

But once you see that he's getting skinned for pace, but more importantly, is positionally inept at right back, and it's looks for all the world like we are playing without a right back, then you have to change it. I don't care if its only 20 minutes in. At least have Flanagan on the bench so it's an option. It was poor all round.
