A 5-0 defeat at Newcastle, a 6-3 defeat at Southampton, the loss of their 40-year unbeaten home record in European competition to Turkish side Fenerbahçe, and the end of a two-year unbeaten home record in the league (all in the space of two weeks) saw many observers write off Manchester United's hopes of retaining the Premiership title.

However, manager Alex Ferguson refused to despair, and insisted that the league could still be won. United did not top the Premiership until late January, and from then on they remained top and were crowned champions at the beginning of May without kicking a ball - their title status was confirmed by Liverpool's failure to beat Wimbledon in the penultimate game of the season.
The above is a write up from Wiki discussing Man Utd's performances from the 96-97 season. I just think people need to look at performances with some perspective.

Aye but they had a grey kit to blame. We've got no such logical excuses. Things like the team needing time to gel doesn't come close to a ****ty grey top.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Sorry lads, I've been on holiday and missed the game. What happened?

Seriously though, didn't watch it so can't really comment. But one thing that did stick out for me when reading the highlights, was Charlie ****ing Adam, he took Bale out with a cunty tackle tale end of last season that could of done a lot more damage than it did.

Was his tackle this time a justified red, he got away with one for his tackle on Bale last year?

The thing that made me laugh is that you get old Harry Redjowels come out and say (again) Adam's not that kind of player.... That's twice he's defended him now, why?

That tackle on Bale last season should have been a red.

The cards on Sunday were two yellows, and both correct decisions.

The second Yellow was high, but he had his eye on the ball so there was no malice in the tackle. But it was a silly challenge to make when on a booking.

Adam's first booking was harsh. He basically committed two fouls and got sent off. A decent ref would have just had a word with him, re the first foul.
