there was that - and i'd also heard about a few other things....

Jari (and on seperate occasions Babbel) going to houiller with suggestions for tactics or sharing their ideas/experience with him - from how i heard it, not being confrontational or trying to belittle houillier, but being good/experienced pro's trying to share ideas etc

Already mentioned Pongolle and Le Tallec. Two players that had it all but ended up at a club with a manager that pissed on the Academy.

Never got a fair chance. You can understand that they ended up being problem players. It must have been very frustrating for them seeing average players get plenty of playing time.

I wonder how great they would have been with a manager like Kenny, Rafa, Segura and Borell the first seasons with us? How much more they would have developed.

Houllier loved/love the club but he loved/love himself even more. That was the problem.

Patrik Berger - was fantastic in patches but should have and could have been so much more. What a left foot!

No one mentioned David Speedie or Julian Dicks?

One of my favourite players at the time.

Injuries got the better of him in the end sadly.

It's pretty uncool to have a pop at a former manager (Hodgson aside), and he did some awesome things with us before it went pear shaped.

But he sounds like a right paranoid dick doesn't he. If that oft-told story about Houllier/Litmanen/Heskey is right....and that's why Jari never got a game and was bombed out.....well, it makes Houllier a prize chump.

Should Anelka be added to that list as Houiller was mental not to sign him after his loan spell and we then got landed with D*ouf and Diao

One of the first things Rafa did when he arrived was to remove a lot of pictures of Houllier lifting trophies and replacing them with the team lifting them.

Says a lot about the difference in mentality between them.

And IIRC, were we not close to signing that mad free kick taking goalie Chilabert?

                          And there is more:

                          Mark Gonzalez
                          Diouf
                          Sander Westerveld
                          Bruno Cheyrou

                          Good shout on Kewell btw.
                          Oh I don't know.

Stan Collymore on Kyle Walker. "He's better going forward then Glen Johnson, he's better defensively then Micah Richards"

Off his swede still I see.

I don't mind Houllier, to be honest, everyone looks at the rubbish he bought, but he also gave us players like Hyypia and Haman as well as McAllister. Every manager gets them wrong, but when Houllier got them right.... he got them right.

Has anyone mentioned Robbie Keane yet? 20 Million pound buy (yes I know we got a lot of the money back), a solid reputation in the EPL and gave little in return.
"That's how I found myself on the Kop that day I had my blue-and-white scarf safely tucked away inside my coat as I listened to Liverpool songs and swayed with the masses.

Then City scored and I screeched and this big bloke, a Liverpool supporter, made towards me and I thought he was going to throttle me. But he just pulled my scarf from under my coat so it lay on the outside, and said: "You should always be proud of your colours, lad."

Houllier tried to get Robbie Keane to replace Fowler.
