I do wonder why we have changed tact from what served us so well in the run in last season. Spearing hasn't had a look in, yet him and Lucas (yes suspended today) gave a great base and we were scoring lots of goals. Maxi isn't my favourite player but he is a bloody good footballer and can finish.

Football is funny though, as that very same performance level that we've witnessed could easily have seen us win 6-1 and we'd have nothing different but actually buried the chances. There is such a thin line between winning and not. I still see no reason to blame the new signings, any of them, they're still finding their feet. Its the likes of Reina and Kuyt who frustrate me the most at present.

I don't think we'll qualify for CL this season. I agree I think Kenny will opt to leave heartbroken. And we will NOT be getting Rafa back in (thankfully).

FSG will finally put their own (and not romantic fans) plans into action.
      One tit for another.

i have to say i prefer the 451 set up and high pressing of the ball.

i agree downing on the right doesnt work

          i prefer agger to skrtel

          thought the subs were strange

but if we had a more clinical striker then we would have been out of site. we had the chances and people on the end of them.

i wonder if carroll was a comolli signing because kenny seems reluctant to play a 35m striker. also kenny was saying today he wants to strengthen in january - i cant see where he would apart from centre back and probably centre mid

Letting Meireles go was ****ing daft. Adam is meh and Henderson isn't ready yet.

You can shove your moneyball up yer ass...

I thought he did well for that cross.

The ball was behind him and he needed to bend his body to establish the head contact with the ball but unfortunately had the limited angle where to place the ball.

Hernandez had the ball served to him at 5 yard mark straight in front of him and it would have been almost impossible for him to miss.

                Not the same thing..

i cant think of anyone tbh but imagine plenty here will know more than i do and will suggest some names.

From an attacking point of view we weren't horrendous, but we really had to score 2 goals, our defence isn't what it used to be and we miss having a serious ball winner in the middle and without Lucas we really lack a player that can purely just maintain shape. I was really concerned about it when I saw Gerrard and Adam playing together and as feared we had no midfield at times and the gap between our defence and midfield was gigantic. The more I see Adam the more I realise that there's no ****ing way he can be a starter for us. He's fat, has no defensive ability, loses the ball after making a run and flings himself to the floor to try to get a free kick probably because he's too unfit to get up and track back. He lost the ball in this fashion when they scored.

I hate to single out a player each week and pick on him, but there's no way I can stop doing it. Downing is ****. I've said it when he played for Middlesbrough, I said it when he played for Villa and I said it again when we signed him. He's ****ing horrible. The best that Downing has shown is equivalent of Riera when he didn't give a ****. I really don't see what he brings to the table, and even when he is playing well i don't see him as a good enough player to help us out. I'd love to have seen Maxi's contribution if he'd have been given half of the opportunities Downing has been.

Due to Suarez' erraticness we definitely do need a steady goalscorer. The thing is that the chances he fashions he does it for himself and he doesn't really look for the pass when he's close to goal he always goes himself. Adding a poacher won't change that, but it'll make sure we'll cash in on chances that our other attackers aren't putting away.

On the plus side I thought that Johnson was decent upon his return and the chances we created were very promising, just need to start sticking them away.

No, he said he was HAPPY with his squad, but injuries may come along, and if we need to spend he thinks the owners will back him.

we need someone who can play upfront and offer a significant goal threat with suarez. Mario gomez but there's no way bayern will let him go. if we do sign a striker not sure what it would say about andy carroll

Nearly every one of us on here agreed before the match that Adam and Gerrard would not work. Some suggested Spearing and some Henderson (me the latter). I have a feeling Steve Clarke knew this wouldn't work too. I worry if he is unable to convince Kenny and is just becoming a yes man.

Carroll was on the bench way too long.
Downing was crap as he was on the wrong ****ing side of the park.
                              Adam - did he play?
Only Enrique any use at the back
Luis needs to learn to pass a little more, and finish a little better - between the posts for example.

i think what he said was a way of testing the waters. we ALWAYS have injuries so im certain he wants to strengthen but it depends on the confidence that FSG have in him.

we need a change of tactics and formation asap. play a trio in midfield, suarez on the right of the attack, downing left and carroll up top.

With three in midfield, enrique and johnson down the flanks there should be plenty of ammunition for the forwards to get on the scoresheet.
