9 Games in. Past seasons comparisons

Im not THAT convinced on stats as they can be pretty misleading, but I thought it would be intresting to get other peoples opinions who are maybe a little negative/down at the moment. These are the tables from 2005-2009 at the same stage of the season and we made the champions league in May.
I was actually pleasantly suprised at the table tbh and feel a bit better than i did this morning. It took me ages so please be kind.

And by the way, I know I highlighted the filth on the first table, it was more of a thing that it was the year they won the league. Im not suggesting in ANY way that we will win the league because i genuinley dont but we are 3 points behind them at the moment as what they were that year.
As I say, its misleading because it doesnt show fixtures and results but you get the idea.

Only reason, I put it was coz it gave me some crumb of comfort the fact that united were 6th, 9 games played, 18 points and finished the league as champions.

We're better than we were a year ago.

I can certainly see your logic behind this, and in previous years (say prior 2008) then it would've certainly been a crumb of comfort. Thing is back then we only had Arsenal, United and Chelsea to compete with - fourth was a gimme every year.

Now City are cemented as a top four team and Spurs are a lot stronger. I think we can get fourth, but it's going to be a massive ****ing battle between us, Spurs and Arsenal. I think we'll need to get 65-68 points to do it. Big task when we chuck away points against Sunderland and Norwich at home.

We have to bare in mind that teams like Citeh and Spurs and to some extent Chelsea have all strengthened in this time frame too, we aren't doing too bad, Newcastle are having a run similar to the one Hull City ere having in the 2008 table and will eventually fade away.

We'll be alright, Europe guaranteed, CL not so sure...

The only slight problem with comparing the tables from back then to now is that all teams are closer in terms of ability. Back then it was a lot easier to destroy smaller teams - there really aren't that many easy games anymore.
