Henderson has been good in the last few games, for me. Downing started off well but has stalled a little in his progress.

If they arent good enough and Kenny has watched them every game, and keeps picking them despite them not being good enough, wouldnt that make him a bit thick?

I'm sure we both know Kenny's more intelligent than that.

    Not really.

Kenny knows what he wants from Henderson and Downing and if he keeps picking them, he must think they're warranting their place, by virtue of them doing what he's picking them to do.

Carroll & Suarez need service from their wide men. Henderson at RM, like any other RM has to do that. Like what he did against Stoke in the cup, he needs to do more of that.

Might be ok against West Brom tonight "doing a job", but against the likes of City etc and if we want to challenege for 4th spot, there is no hiding and Hendo will have to go and try effect the play higher up the pitch.

IMO at RM he is very ineffective.
As i say, Kenny knows what he wants from Henderson and clearly the player is producing what is required, otherwise he wouldnt play.

It's a squad game and you have to use the players accordingly.

The side won comfortably today and Henderson was part of that side. He contributed. He may not be flashy and explosive, he may not be like Suarez in terms of his impact but guess what, not every player in the team has to do the same thing. Some players are always going to be show-stealers more than others and that's fine. It's the team that matters, not individuals and Henderson fits into the team well.

He's a kid and if you want him to improve, he wont do that by sitting on the bench.

        Is he?

If that's what he is in the team for, and isnt doing it, why does he keep being picked?

Maybe what you think his function in the team is, isnt the same as what Kenny sees his role as being.

Amongst the dribble, I saw Roy weighing up the idea of saying something about "drawing the second half", I'm pleased and disappointed at the same time that he didn't.

We paid 20 million ish for a young lad, Kenny is giving him a fair crack of the whip. Ther no point in you keep on saying "why does he keep on getting picked", sure that's my question. And sure Kenny does make mistakes like everyone.

We bought Hendo using a stats based approach of Comolli, and Hendo was in the top 6 or 7 in "chances" created, his crossing/distribution seemed very good at Sunderland also. I highly doubt Kenny and Comolli bought him to do a job at RM. Sure Clarke said just as much after the Stoke game, talking about Hendo's assist he was saying that's why we bought him. I'm sure they want him getting ballls in and getting assists just like we do.

Kenny keeps picking him at RM, so i think it's somewhat dubious to think he doesnt want him to be playing at RM.

But the point is, Kenny has an idea of what he wants each player to provide, and Henderson cant be failing to do what Kenny wants, otherwise Kenny would drop him.

It would be an awfully thick manager to keep picking a player who isnt producing what the manager wants him to produce, wouldnt you agree?

Unless you think Kenny's thick, which i dont think you do, then it's clear that Henderson is producing what Kenny wants him to produce.

No, it is, it is saying well Kenny says so, so it is right. Sorry but that is a weak way of arguing a point.

Every manager makes mistakes but when Kenny makes one on footballing related matters, you can be damn sure, he'll see it before you, me or anyone else on a Liverpool forum. *Unless Rafa's bored and signed up on one.

No that's not what i'm saying at all, no matter how many condescending posts you make claiming otherwise.

I'm saying Kenny knows what he wants from his players and those who dont provide it, wont keep being picked.

Henderson is a very intelligent footballer, ofcourse you need your skillful players but theres no point in having skillful players if they have no space or players who will get it to them or defenders have no-one else to worry about, its all about the team

i think the criticisms of our lack of final ball / crosses misses the point.

I grew up watching us in the early 80's - when we won just about every game - often 1 -0 and everyone hated us.

Today was the nearest I remember seeing us to an old away performance - get a goal and then keep the ball. If they went forward we made sure the ball went dead so no-one could catch us on the break. I've been screaming at the TV for a long time waiting for us to get it again.

Problem is - it was against a Hodgson team - he maybe missed the 90's when it stopped working!

Hodgson has missed nothing for the last 37 odd years

                              He did that.
Exactly right, the johnson hendo partnership was pleasing because he likes to drift in-field and johnson likes to over-lap which means in that sense they compliment each other.

i still think he would be best next to lucas but overall a decent game for hendo. imo his short-pass and move game would be best next to lucas, because they both keep the game ticking over very well, some people have said he was bought to replace Gerrard eventually but i see him more as a player who is an offensive version of lucas.

Positive game for Carroll, showed good link-up with Suarez, lucas was outstanding imo, downing was non-existent for the majority of the game but i still back him to come good.

The two centre-backs played a good game imo, i think they could strike up a good partnership reguarly if Agger stays fit, Danish Daniel is a leader in the backline, hes the leader the defence need (along with Reina) when Carra eventually gets phased out.
