Would have nice to see them interchange positions on left and right for little while but that might be coming in the next game they play together.

In terms of Maxi, I share your views as to me we play with much more fluidity with him in the lineup.

Would be very surprised if he doesn't start on Wednesday though.

Have no doubts Maxi will start vs Wigan. These type of games we've been slipping up in, 3 wins from 3 would show some nice and much needed consistency.

EDIT: Disagree thought that originally but on replay, opened up for Adam nicely and perfectly entitled to have a strike and was unlucky IMO.

Maybe so, but does it deserve so much focus? As I pointed out earlier Downing was free in and around the box numerous times and our players choose the wrong option by ignoring him and as someone has already pointed out, Suarez will often overlook the simple/smarter ball to run at about 5 players as he has confidence in his own ability.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

It is great to see us grind out these types of wins.

3 more points in the bag and nice boost of confidence for Wigan match.

It was very selfish of him in that situation.

suarez was unlucky to hit the post with the chip but the one where he cracked the bar was a miss for me. 8 yards out, it should be in. in his defence though, the balls they play with these days make such misses common place.

downing is more effective on the right. it gives us a release on both sides, with bellamy on the left. plus he doesn't get in enriques way.

Great 3 points and a promising game from Shelvey. Defence and goalkeeper solid again, but I still think the midfield isn't right. We give too much space to the opposition and Villa got into some good positions but their decision making and execution in the final third was woeful and helped us out.

There was plenty of space for us too, but the midfield isn't assertive enough to take full advantage of it. Henderson for one is prone to make an instant sideways or backwards pass instead of driving forward. Even Agger had a go, as did Skrtel in the first half. There was bags of room on offer vs. mediocre players. And Downing should have done better with the space he had.

I'm baffled why Carragher replaced Shevely. I don't think he made one pass or a single tackle; his only contributions were the two biggest mistakes in the game. Baffling decision.

I made the same point earlier. None of those 3 are good in closing down and pressing the opposition as they play zone defense and defend the space but not the players.

In terms of Carra, yes he did make a mistake but we need him to get some match fitness as he'll be the first one to step in if Skrtel and/or Agger get injured.

Well he barely played today and yet still our general finishing was woeful

Still we can continue to blame him for this I suppose

                            Some Johnson stats:

Passes- 44/48 (2 of the missed passes were crosses)
                            Interceptions- 6
Tackles- 7/9 (2 missed tackles in opponents half)
Shots: 1/1 (A great effort too.)

Good game, Villa didn't create much, and when their best chance fell to Heskey you know they are ****ed. Impressed with our defence, they have been great since the Spurs game. Good to see us take the early chances for once, and unlucky for Suarez his "goal of the season" wasn't to be.. After we scored our second we just cruised in, no need to make the extra effort, although we looked more likely to score 3 more than they pulling one back. Good work from the lads and the management. Have to say though, Caroll looks like a clown in a funeral, can't understand what's up with him, as he looked a good player for Castle... Really hope he finds some kind of form soon.

                                Very good overall game.

His shot on goal that Guzan incredibly saved was outstanding.

Very unlucky that he didn't score.
