Personally I don't think Downing was any worse than Maxi, Kuyt or Adam tonight who were all very poor. But he seems to be the one being singled out by some - Perhaps based on the fact that the others have previously shown what they are capable of and he hasn't or perhaps something else. But for me in terms of an isolated performance today he was no worse than the others. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Painful defeat today. Many of our players was a shadow of themselves. Johnson, Adam, Kuyt i could go on. This is frustrating. And I must admit that I almost anticipated that Adam would miss I mean what are the changes for us to score on a penalty kick? Adam hasn't played a accurate pass all game, and we have scored on on 1 of 5 penalties this season.
I think Agger and Skrtel did okay. If you look through the last 10 minutes of first have where Moses caused us many trouble. Suarez played okay under the circumstances I mean he played very well IMO the first 30 minutes, he tried to make chances and the earned us a penalty. Too much heel and smart tricks at the end, but at least he tried. Reina was imo our MOM. He played well, did what he had to to keep us from loosing, he was anticipating especially the pass to Moses I think it was in the 75th minute or something like that. I think King Kenny brought on the substitutions too late. Downing and Maxi was also headshaking bad today.
To be fair we could easily have loosed this game so 0-0 was a fair result. We were lucky in many situations and so were they. It was the goalies who really delivered today. Fantastic game by Al-Habsi.
Merry Christmas to you all. Let's up we defeat Blackburn the 26th.

Our finishing is ****ing dreadful
Our goal tally speaks for itself
Yet we are quite high up in the stats in terms of creating goal scoring chances
That should tell you all you need to know
IF we had Rush playing upfront in his pomp no-one would even be talking about the rest of the team
Over the last 30 years we've almost always had at least one fantastic finisher: Rush, Aldridge, Fowler, Owen, Torres... until now

injuries and suspensions have forced our hand unfortunately. But there is no hiding from the poor performances of several players.
As regards some of the players mentioned.
Hendo is young but looks lightweight in CM and doesn't force himself on the game to make a sufficient impact, whether or not he can in the future i'm not so sure, but we need him firing "now" and not in the future. Adam had done well for us but was awful today, Shelvey very young but has to be the most unathletic footballer i've ever seen, lopes around but he has time on his side and is learning the game. Kuyt.... well poor oul Dirk legs look shot. Love the guy but hasn't performed well this season, to say the least.
As for Stuart Downing well, when we signed Downing alot of people saying his production/crossing etc was great and that's why we bought him, had decent pre season and start to league, but 17 league games 0 goals 0 assists it's an incredible stat.
IMO he has been absolutely dreadful, there's no sugar coating his timid, placid, lack lustre approach. He offers nothing atm, and this is not a witch hunt before people start saying support players etc, i'm pretty sure at this stage it's a general view and a realistic & truthful one at that, so i don't think i'm saying anythign wrong here.
P.S. With each game going by, i seem to be shouting more and more at Stuart on my tv, he nearly got my swanky Denby mug throw at him today
P.P.S What the **** is up with our finishing!!!!!!!??

I haven't read the thread yet so I'm not sure what the general opinion is but today I thought we lost it in midfield for large portions of the game.
For the first time it became obvious to me today how important the defensive midfielder is to the attack. Lucas gives you confidence moving forward because you know you will be covered at the back, as does Spearing. Today we just didn't seem to have control of the middle and at times Wigan seemed to run us ragged.
Today we seemed very sloppy in possession, too many times we lost the ball with a weak pass or a bad pass or got dispossessed by sharp Wigan players.
It's not our worse performance of the season but in some ways I feel lucky that we came away with a point.
Now I'll read the thread and see that everyone else thinks the opposite

My stream wasn't great I couldn't be sure Downing or Henderson were on the pitch for about half an hour! Enrique seems to be giving us more going forward than Downing!
It's obvious to everyone what we need. A goal scorer, cover for Lucas and a wide attacking player (someone class). And in that order. The first two are surely a must.
I also though Adam had one of his worst games for us. It wasn't just the penalty. His all round play just seemed very sloppy to me.
& the middle half hour, and the last half hour

It is typical Liverpool though, these inconsistencies have been with us far longer than just this season. Not being able to beat the weaker sides has been a major issue for us for quite some time.
Ah well what can ya do, Gerrard out all season,Lucas is now out for the entire season,Spearing gets 3 match ban, Suarez gets an 8 match ban..... what the **** is next!!!!

ive just got in from work so unfortunately I didnt see the match. but ive been told we missed plenty of chances and lost possession too easily.
not great but I dont even know what the other results were so im not sure of its repercussions.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]
