That's one reason. Downing has been disappointment so far but he is better player than what he has shown. Giving him more playing time may help him get out of slump and help his confidence.

Another one is that we don't have a winger that can play regularly especially on 3-day rest type of schedule as Bellamy's knees are known problem.

Enrique and Glen Johnson are both better 'wingers' than Stewart Downing.

He and Bellamy are brought in to provide width and even though I don't think Downing project is working out I can see why Kenny is trying to help him get confidence back by playing him, not that I agree with that.

Agreed and once again it is not my view that he should be playing but our options upfront are very limited with Suarez missing and Bellamy not being able to play on short rest.

If you remember you and I wanted someone else instead of Downing as I was never his big fan.
