A manager needs to know what players he wants. If its not his 'forte' he shouldn't be in charge.. He wanted a pathetic Downing to provide for a useless Carroll. How many of us on here before the season started got grief for suggesting they were incredibly poor buys! Well over half a season on and its point proven.. If you know football you'd have known they were poor from the start.

EDIT- I'm in no way taking any joy from that post.. I'd have loved to have been proven wrong! It's the club that matters so rose tinted glasses off and lets look how we can move forward.

Obviously I love Kenny , but when Rafa went .. I felt robbed ... they stole something a lot of us loved almost as much as our football club .. why ... because we knew he was special .. he had one bad season .. under the most difficult times the football club has ever seen

I am not sure the system of having a Director of Football overseeing player buying will work anyway and that is down to the owners. Kenny is diplomatic enough not to say it doesn't work but surely, someone like him must have been able to see that Carroll wasn't good enough.

This is all really worrying. We needed a defensive midfielder in there, but you have to ask yourself where then do you then play Gerrard, Adam and Henderson? What system was our transfer policy geared towards in the summer? For me, I can't help but wonder what our style - or quality - of play would have been at the end of last season if we had actually signed Adam last January, or indeed if Carroll had been fit. Man City apart, for the few games that Andy Carroll played at the end of last season it seemed that our quality noticeably deteriorated. Would Dalglish have got the job full-time if he had got all the signings he wanted playing regularly at the end of last season?

I think the elephant in the room is that we are not progressing as a team and responsibility has to fall largely at the feet of the manager. Just because he is King Kenny shouldn't make him immune to criticism.

Long term, one of the big worries I have is that the youth team was supposed to have links with the first team's style of play, or at least play in a similar way to enable an easier transfer for the players from youth/reserves into the first team. Where would Suso for example play in our current first team? Or Silva, Coady, Adorjan or even Sterling? We do not have a settled formation and it seems that any formation we do play negates the potential of our youth team, which seems crazy long term. Just when we seemed to be getting a style of play running throughout the club, it all changes. I remember Guardiola saying something along the lines of that we have some quality players that could come through but this needs managing correctly. Are we really doing this?

Now that we know more of the details surrounding what was going on, you can't even call that one bad. Can't help but wonder what might have happened had he been given a chance with the new owners.
