He is good cover for Lucas but who would you play today instead?

Hendo and Adam are awful defensively and Jay did make the mistake but I thought he should have stayed (Henderson should've been subbed) as we had no player that could press their midfield and try to take the ball away.

If you're good enough on the ball, then you don't need the holding midfielder. Who did they have holding today?

Said it in the match thread - Gerrard should have been used behind Suarez - Suarez was up top completely isolated for large portions of the game.

Carroll looks like he's back to form before the last few games. It might be confidence again - as soon as Suarez is available he's on the bench, like what he's done hasn't been enough. He looked like he didn't have footballing basics again today, night and day compared to the last few games.

Suarez was rusty when he did get the ball as well.

The midfield was sickening. Downing deserves all the abuse coming his way. He's a chicken**** footballer, always looking to pass responsibility to someone else. He never does his job. I don't know what he's good at. Nothing I think.

Only a few days ago people were saying how good Henderson is, and what a great cover for Lucas Spearing is. Bollocks. We should have been active in the transfer market, replacements for Lucas, Downing and Carroll were a must and will cost us heavily.

Downing doesn't deserve to be on the bench don't mind to start (reserves are his place atm) and Carroll also should have been in the first 11.

Poor performance, especially from the usual suspects. Downing... ****ing hell, what more can you say. He needs to go. We should have bought a defensive midfielder when we had the chance.

To say Suarez is a fiery character is an understatement! He did very well not to respond to Evra gloating in his face like that.

Valencia is a huge player for them. He had a lot of joy against Enrique - not seen anyone get that much from him since he's been at the club. It would be amazing to actually have a winger at our club that could consistently beat his man. ****ing hell, was the last one Macca? Disgusting really when that's the first quality you should be looking for in a winger (in my opinion).

very poor performace from us today, think the whole occasion got to our players far more than us today.

I'm just glad that's over frankly.

We didn't play well at all, but some people have gone a bit ott about it, I've seen us play worse at OT over the years. Come to think of it, they played just as badly at our place earlier this season, difference was they didn't gift us a second goal in that game and were able to jam a draw.

Spearing did look a bit out of his depth, and Downing was terrible. Enrique had a dodgy game too, but he got no support against valencia who was, imo, their best player. We've got a lot of work to do still, but I don't think we really found anything out today that we didn't know.

Oh, and everything that happened today convinced me even more that Suarez genuinely feels wronged by the whole Evra thing. Personally, despite the inevitable bad press etc, I don't blame him for not shaking the guy's hand.
