Sadly I agree. As much as it kills me to say we were absolute ****. Apart from Johnson we never looked a threat in the first half, sat back too much and let them come at us. lost two goals early on in the second and still never seemed to go for it, for me the tactics were **** and we got what we deserved.

Suarez starting uofront and isolated in the first half with barely a touch of the ball and no support was criminal. No wonder he lashed out when the whistle went at half time.

Possibly - but just think of how many times we have actually been able to field Gerrard, Suarez and Carrol this season? They are the focal points of our attack, yet hae hardly played together as a unit. Add to that loosing Lucas and his ability to just keep things ticking over the season has been very stop start.

We are a very slow side that needs a lot more pace.

I think that is something that needs to be addressed, especially in our wing play.

Arse 1 down at Sunderland.....maybe not the worst day for us after all.....although we could have capitalised!!!!

All in all I am still confident about 4th....just like if we won we shouldn't have got carried away, we shouldn't because we lost either.....

Also, it's more important for our league position that we beat arsenal and Chelsea at home..

We need more than just pace.

We need more creative players that are versatile enough to play in few different positions, 1 or 2 difference makers that can single-handedly solve the game outcome and top notch goal scorer like Cavani.

                  I'm still in a mood.

Two individual errors, Johnson got the wrong side of Rooney and Spearing caught in possession, other than that we cancelled each other out. Again, we struggled to get the ball from back to front - which was helped by neither Gerrard or Suarez; Gerrard dropping to our back four and Suarez dropping in to midfield. This meant we lacked a presence upfront, Kuyt looked laboured and Downing had his worst game for us (which is saying something). Henderson drifted in and out of the game - mostly out of it, but it's strange; we see Henderson right(ish) and he has his head up and looking for a quick forward ball - often intercepted, but trying to provide a platform for us to attack, whilst Kuyt goes right(ish) takes a few touches to get it under control, comes in field and runs in to a midfielder.

I'm trying not to be too knee-jerk, but I don't think Downing has a future here and Kuyt has had his time with us. We remedied a Robbie Keane mistake, I think we need to do the same with Stewart Downing. Kuyt has been an exceptional player for us and will be extremelye well thought of, but I don't even think he would serve a purpose as a squad player - any cash and one less wage is the way forward.

Good point about Lucas, He is a big loss but was Spearing a good choice today? I hoped Shelvey might get a chance there, he has an eye for a pass and from what i've seen of him he looks to get things going in attack. utd's midfield are **** but we let them off the hook today.

And might I add downing is shocking, nothing to his game and being carried too much

I'm not 'getting' the Gerrard and Enrique criticism though; Gerrard dropped deep to help us get going, what he should have done when Adam came on, was push up or right and pass the responsibility to Adam - we had opportunities towards the end when we had worked the ball right and we needed a quality delivery.

As for Enqriue, I thought he tracked Valencia well; yes he has a tendency to drop off and give the attacker too (and usually two) many yards, but he was relatively solid and covered well enough.

Enrique got bitch slapped a couple of times but Valencia is a very good winger in excellent form. Enrique kept him quiet for the majority of the game IMO.

The problems he had with Rafeal where down to Downing not doing his defensive duties.

                          ****headson quote yesterday

"We've kept our dignity throughout. We've kept our counsel. That is the right thing to do in these situations.

"We'll keep it that way, too and just concentrate on the game."

For the third weekend running, the subject of a pre-match handshake is dominating debate.

Two weeks ago, it was cancelled to avoid embarrassment between John Terry and Anton Ferdinand.

Terry's absence through injury meant Rio Ferdinand avoided having to make a difficult decision at Chelsea.

This time around it could be that Suarez and Evra do not come into contact as the Liverpool man is not certain to start.

It is an issue Ferguson addressed seven days ago, when he insisted it was "only a handshake".

And it appears the Scot has given the matter no further thought.

"I've not even thought about that," he said.

"I'm not bothered about it. It's not been an issue."

I think we *had* to play Spearing today; Adam would have been a walking red card and Shelvey doesn't have the discipline or positional sense to hold the middle of the park.

To be fair to Spearing, he wasn't having a bad game, he just made a bad choice - as soon as we were two down, we had to sacrifice him to change tactics.

I agree with your point about Downing, he lacks any fight. Sometimes it's nice to see a player lambasting an opponent or a referee, but he just seems to let the game pass him by.

He was disappointment today and while many predict some very good future for him I have my own reservations.

Yes he is a young player and will get better but the question is if he a type of player that will be able to make a real mark on the starting 11.

Atm I don't think he should start as to me he doesn't offer enough and though I agree with Lecter that Adam and him should be used interchangeable, his game requires a lot of improvement in more than few areas and I am worried about if he is mentally strong enough to become a good player for us.
