Apparently his agent had told him that he'd try and get him 20k a week but would he settle for 15k? They went in for the meeting with Ridsdale and he immediately offered him 60k a week.
If I remember the rumour first time around Risdales first offer was for £37K per week

Then his agent dived in and said they wanted more

Cant remember what the final wage was but it was very big (not sure it was £60K though)

We (Comolli) came in and offered £14m as an opening bid, Sunderland obviously realised they could get more out of us as no-one expects the opening offer to be accepted, the final deal was something along the lines of £13m plus add ons for appearances, full England caps and trophies.

What's naive from us is we didn't sound out the agent to get a gauge what Sunderland valued Henderson at, we didn't sound out Sunderland to try and find a level to pitch at we just steamed in.

The Carroll deal was different but we clearly could have got Henderson and Downing for less, a combined saving of £8-10m on those fees is another player.
My opinion for what it's worth is FSG got rid of Comolli because he wasn't providing value for money with the signings and they clearly didn't have any faith that this would change this summer.

Bizarrely Adam, Enrique and Coates are are reasonably priced for the return on the pitch they're giving us so they were 'good business' also getting £50m for Torres was great business so Comolli's bad equals out his good for me.

All it means is FSG don't tolerate 'failure' or anyone not delvering on what they promised.

Kenny is next, if we haven't improved by Christmas next year then he'll also be gone
      Steve bruce said this.....

'No way is £20 million enough for Jordan Henderson,' said Bruce ahead of Sunday's Tyne-Wear derby at Newcastle United.

'But if Real Madrid come in and offer £30 million for Jordan then you have a problem. Players want to improve and go to a so-called bigger club.'

Thats when Scum made some enquiries winter window 2011. Not sure the figure quoted, But fergiescum defintely made enquiries about his availability and figures were always around 20million.

I think that 13m + add ons we paid was good business tbh in a an over inflated english market

Hopefully, Ayre is next for the complete balls up he made of the Suarez case and his PR stunt with the TV revenues.

Maybe it makes more sense that they'd get rid of Comolli first as he was less likely to step aside in the summer.

Wonder whether we will continue down the director of football route now. When he got his promotion there was a lot of talk about player preparation etc. which you would think could easily be separated from recruitment.

I guess it leaves an opening 'upstairs' for Kenny should FSG want to move him out of day to day management.

I really think we should be looking at someone with 37+ years of international footballing experience for our new DoF. Perhaps a humble, respected & affable scholar of the game with great footballing credentials & networks. Maybe even a top man-manager to help entice them to the club.

                    Anyone spring to mind...?

                        it certainly begs the question.

Its always interesting with LFC at least.

I think Rafa has a mountain to climb to get near that job

Far too many obstacles at the club who would move heaven and earth to dissuade FSG from appointing him
