    "LFC top of diving league"

An article in the Telegraph shows LFC as having more players booked for diving and hence are top of the diving league.

It could be seen as supporting some of Dalglish's views about refs and LFC getting a raw deal. I assume the list includes the Suarez "dive" recently where he was actually fouled.

What strikes me is that Manu have had no players booked for diving, despite Young getting penalties in their last two games that would have been deemed as dives by any other team.

Doesn't really prove anything. Just that we have been caught in the act and the ref has deemed it as a bookable offence. I'm sure other dives have occurred which haven't been booked, yet free kicks were given and others either conned the ref or they turned a blind eye.

These stats are meaningless, using the number of bookings is flawed as it depends on the referee seeing it and giving a booking for it, I can remember off the top of my head four incidents in recent weeks where players were wrongly booked for diving, as the total is only 19 bookings that's over 20% of all the bookings that are wrong. Similarly most dives go completely unpunished (some are even rewarded). There have been alot more than 19 dives there is probably on average about one a game, which would mean that 95% of incidents aren't counted in these stats.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Good post and absolutely right; it's a nothing article, jumbled together during a time when 'simulation' is hot-topic. Tevez and Suarez are on the list for defenders standing on their feet, if anything that 'statistical analysis' highlights the incompetence of referees.

My thoughts exactly when I saw this.
