Piss poor season largely down to the **** football strategy put in place. Most of us could see that it would fail, hopefully we've thrown the baby out with the bathwater with that regard.

I think sabermetrics or a form of it can work but comolli wasnt the right man for the job. A good old fashioned chief scout who understands our system and what type of player to look for.Originally posted by cream View PostAbsolutely true, restricting yourself to the British market and sabermetrics, clearly a recipe for disaster. Hopefully, that strategy has been binned with Comolli.
One concern i have is that the academy are all playing 4231 so players coming into the system will be familiar with those roles. but we dont use the 4231 so its harder for kids to adjust to the first team.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

Sabermetrics has a small part to play, as does nationality. We should be buying players based on talent and ability, not nationality. We should have a distinctive style of football and players brought in to fit that system and style of play instead of using stats to buy players, throwing them together and expect them play as a team. It's clearly where we've gone wrong.Originally posted by el matador View PostI think sabermetrics or a form of it can work but comolli wasnt the right man for the job. I appreciate your optimism and the sentiment & i do agree with some of the points you've made, but the real truth of it is it has been an atrocious season. You're post may be seen as a rallying call but i think most LFC supporters are being realistic about how bad things are.Originally posted by MrNice View PostNot bad from serious relegation candidates, a football club staring down the barrel of likely administration , from signing Christian Poulsen for 4.5 million to breaking the British Trasnfer Record Signing Andy Carrol.
Whilst our League form was atrocious, lets not forget we dominated many of the games we either lost or drawn and the football on show was bloody brilliant at times. Certain players were not good enough, others did not perform to there potential. Collectively whilst we pushed on from were we were, we could have achieved a lot more.
But lets get some perspective. We are a club now in rude financial health, putting our extraordinary operating expenses last year to one side. We still are I would say easily one the top 5 clubs in the world in terms of brand. Whilst we need to sign players and ship players out this summer for sure, we have the basis of a very strong squad here already.
Players like Gerrard, Suarez, Carroll, Lucas, Agger, Johnson, Pepe, Skirtel, players who have it in them to be a lot better Enrique, Kelly, Downing. Young players who have huge potential, Sterling, Henderson, Shevely
Obviously the bench mark we need to hit at a minimum is 4th next season, looking at the teams fighting for that spot at the moment, I dont think we are far off that and we definitely will be in the mix for that spot or better next season. Maybe 4 really strong signings this summer and we can maybe increase our chances from just being in the mix, but hey its a Journey.
Kenny has got us back in Europe, he has won us a Trophy and with all our bad luck for the next 20 years used up in one season, who knows what he can achieve next season. I for one and looking forward to it immensely

There is absolutely no sugar coating an embarrassing, toothless league showing and the abominable summer transfer window, which in turn has lead us further away from 4th place than we have been in a long time. And with so much money spent it only magnifies how bad the signings really were.
At the end of last season we looked like a team on the up, a strong finish to the league, the top teams in England being well.... not as good as previous years, new owners & a good transfer kitty. It was the perfect opportunity to take advantage of all these factors, sign some quality players in positions that desperately needed to be nailed down & push for that 4th spot.
Kenny & Comolli made a horses cock of the transfers in the summer and we didn't progress. And for me the biggest mistake was not getting a replacement in for Lucas & a striker in the january window (notorious slim pickings i know) but IMO it was a huge mistake.
If Kenny if here come next season that is fine, i will support him 100% and hope that he doesn't repeat the failings of last summers window. But IMO it would be best for him and LFC if he steps down. The guy is a LFC legend and always will be, but for me as much i just don't think he is the guy to turn us back into a top 4 club.

It's been a shocking league campaign. Absolutely woeful but I think our league position is false. We should be 5th/6th.
Add 3 good signings in the summer and you're not far off from one the the best XIs in Europe. Anybody who knows their football would agree with that.
Yeah mistakes have been made, but in hindsight, I think mistakes need to be made in order to get things right. I think it would have been too much to to expect new owners, new manager, new coaching staff, new players to just hit it off ground running.
If, at the end of next season, we're still in this precarious position, then I would say there needs to be a change of manager but at the moment I'm actually quite excited to see what happens next season.

At the end of the day, whats the difference between 5th and 10th for LFC? Neither is good enough, and we know we need to improve.
But I saw enough last season to know I want Dalglish to be the man to take us forward. If nothing else, one more chance. Its not sentiment. I truely believe he can take us into the top 4 (which is were we need to be).
The problem is, we have had two misfiring strikers all season, and the loss of our only comfortable holding midfielder, and the total failure of the big money winger (which I think was our only big mistep in the summer). In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

He is not the player we should build the team around. Suarez is by far and away the player we should build around.Originally posted by foresterbloke View PostOur team will be built around Carroll. His FA Cup performance shows you the kind of player he will become. We'll be ****ing strong next season.
If we get the players we need and ship out some dross I think top 4 is on.

How do you build a team around an unpredictable player?Originally posted by Mattshark View PostHe is not the player we should build the team around. Suarez is by far and away the player we should build around.
If you think we lack an identity or strategy now, how are we going to implement a game plan around a player that does the unexpected?
I'm all for keeping Suarez, but the only thing we can build around him is a formation and hope some players can second guess him.
