    Steve Finnan

It surprises me just how much stick the lad gets.

last week for instance against Villa, I was sat next to two guys who gave him stick when ever he got the ball.

I asked why he was getting so much stick and they said it was because he could not defend and when in possession of the ball he would always look Backwards and sidewards very rarely would he look for a forward pass.

They believed the reason we are so incompetent in defense at the moment is because he is just not good enough and does not offer enough to the team.

they also commented that the reason Gerrard is playing right Mid is to protect finnan.

How many of you guys also share this guys opinion?
When ever I watch him,. he seems to me to be competent if nothing else and always seems to give a decent performance with out ever really excelling....

Whats your views on Stevie Finnan?.
On awaiting Everton's arrival for a derby game at Anfield, Bill Shankly gave a box of toilet rolls to the doorman and said: "Give them these when they arrive – they'll need them!"

My view is that the two fellas who sat next to you have no idea what they're on about

        I tend to agree Sas...

I would like to know whether we are in the majority or minority.

I think you'll fin most people on here are supporters of Finnan, although it would be nice to put the guy under some pressure to perform for his place.

Mainly the fellas views are bollox but he raises on or two decent points which I've mentioned before.

He does always tend to look sideways or backwards for a pass and doesn't exactly press the left back or have the ability to deliver killer passes.

However he is very good in defense but can't head for toffee unfortunately. He does a lot of good overlapping runs and can deliver a pretty decent cross.

Stevie playing there to cover him is a pile of ****, don't know where he pulled that one from, and he's not to blame for any poor defending, but has been caught out once or twice this season, but no more than anyone else.

However he's still a very good right back and easily in the top 3 of prem right backs.

I'm in the majority. Drunken Yorkshire folk who slam their hand into ceilings, thus breaking it when Gerrard scores are, thankfully, in the minority.

I like the lad but I would not go as far as to say that...

Top 5 yes, not the best though...

Good post mate, i think Steve Finnan is a superb right back.
Probably the best in the Prem.

If we sign Lucas Neill we'd have two of the best full backs in the Premiership.

Reckon we should get Gary Neville as well then?

I was being sarcastic really, we need a good attacking right back, and Neill is just a stop gap and not a decent solution whether he's in the top 3/5 of prem right backs or not, it's not exactly a heavily contested position in England is it.
