2011 - 2012 Season Post Match

Well we have reached the end of another season, our first full one under the new owners and the leadership of Kenny.

I think we can all agree that our league position is not good enough, but two cup finals with one trophy in the cabinet is hard to argue against.

One things for sure we need to spend well in summer, and we need to pick out the right players.

Although it doesn't look that way we are better off as a club then we where 18 months ago, we just need some final pieces to fall into the jigsaw.

Does the problam fall with the players, the manager or just very bad luck?

Hopefully next season will be better, its with regret that I say I've never wanted one to end as much as this one.

Shelvey too
Suarez still genius, needs backup
Defensive line starting to gel well.
Doni seems respectable backup to Pepe (who's floundered a bit of late)

Henderson, Adam, Downing and Enrique need to look at themselves seriously.

Need LB, DM, AM, at least 1 winger and a striker.

Still unsure about the man at the helm right now...

We didn't have an effective system to work to, we changed players around too much, in terms of playing positions and who was playing. After a whole season with this squad we still don't know what system we'd play or who'd play in it.

We don't know whether we're going to play one up front, or two up, if it's one will it be Carroll or Suarez, will we play a high back line or a deep backline, will we press the opposition or not? None of these questions have been answered, and all need to be.

Yes some of the players aren't good enough and we've over paid for signings, but I think that all these players would do better if they knew what their roles were - yeah I very much doubt we'd be challenging for the title but we'd be in a much better final position than we find ourselves in at the moment.

Reason? The buck stops with the manager. Worst season league wise in my lifetime. Victim of his own success maybe last season, raised expectation to unreasonable levels.

But. We finished close to CL places previous two seasons. Big spend in the summer and we went backwards. Has to go.

Cup runs have been short term boosts which prove we can show up for the big games, but when the pressure is on in the lesser games, we don't.

Remember Pako Ayesteran called the 2004-2005 season poor (we'd just qualified for the Champions League Final).

The fact it's being debated whether this season has been a success or not shows the decline in our mentality as a club.

The players bought last summer need need to shoulder some of the responsibility but Kenny didn't do himself any favours either, Sadly I think he should step aside IF a suitable replacement has been identified.

We need to bin Downing as soon as possible, He's not gonna get any better so cut our losses no matter how bad the hit we take on his fee.
