My opinion keeps changing on this, but I think I've finally decided that Martinez would be the best option. I think he ticks more boxes than AVB and I can't see Rafa returning (although I would be ecstatic if he did).

I don't see that there is a great deal of difference in terms of experience between Martinez and AVB although in my opinion Martinez has more maturity on his side. Their ages are quite important, 34 is a bit too young to manage players of a similar age.

Aside from management ability Martinez is very bright and deals with the media brilliantly. I think he looks more presentable and the owners will be looking for someone who will be the face of the brand. FSG are trying to make us more appealing to the American market and I think Martinez would fit the bill much more than AVB.

I enjoy watching Wigan play and I'd like to see us playing good football and obviously getting better results with our superior players.

I don't get the Martinez vitriol either. I don't want AVB, some of his man management skills are laughable.

However that said, whoever gets the gig I think we need to give him a chance and show some patience.

As far as I'm aware, Martinez hasn't been abused or anything. He's been criticised for the failings of his Wigan team and the worry about taking his methods to us.

If anything, the attacks against FSG for not considering Rafa for an interview have been far worse and extremist at times (on the internet as a whole).

There is no way Rafa was ever going to get the job in the first place.

And there has been a fanatical reaction to him coming back as manager by many LFC supporters, that in itself would have made FSG's mind up.

Just opinion. Kayll thing was interesting. Jen Chang. Martinez supposedly being recomended by rafa. The new structure. All conjecture I know. But there are some dots to connect I think.

Possible......you do wonder why such a passionate, technical and successful manager has been content with putting his feet up at home ?
Wouldn't be a bit surprised if he finally moved on, if the Liverpool hot-seat was filled with someone else.

From that clip earlier, it looks like he's very much up to date with current football tactics and players.

nothing wrong with opinion. To be honest we are all guessing, unfortunately uncertainty breeds fear and impatience. Think that is what we are seeing from alot of LFC supporters.

I agree. What does sort of put my mind to rest, is that they have had just under two seasons to work out how to get LFC to perform, and it seems that they are now acting on a plan. Their plan. Which they seem confident enough to want to make a documentry out of.

I would be happy with AVB although the old guard that he alienated, won Chelsea the FA Cup and the Champs League.

Players like Drogba & Lampard who were consistently dropped by AVB have been superb for Chelsea since AVB departure & are a massive factor in how they have played the latter end of the season. It does make you wonder if Villas Boas had his mind set so much on breaking the old guard up, that he forgot that they are actually fantastic footballers!

It's a difficult one to judge him at Chelsea, did he just get it completely wrong Or was he pissing against the wind from the get go? Maybe a bit of both? I'd be curious to what the man himself has to say about his time at Chelsea.

A dressing room full of 30+ year olds is easy to manage if you are looking for a good performance just once a fortnight, but is really difficult to manage if you are looking for consistency and at the time time looking to rebuild. So AVB had an impossible task.

But AVB also made a large number of school boy errors and his people management skills proved to be useless.

I would not want him anywhere near LFC.
