"Wield the axe"Originally posted by Kenneth View Postyes, they stretched the current crop this season and its paid off, but someone will need to wield the axe.
It won't work. They need those players to achieve a successful transition. That's what Ferguson has been trying to do.Are we winning?

and its not worked out so well. They have the money and if they want to win the league they can't carry the likes of an aging lampard. They need world class replacements.Originally posted by NigelLG View Post"Wield the axe"

I don't see why people are considering Martinez to be a bad appointment. If he can get Wigan beating the top teams then think what he could do with us? He wasn't having much success early season but then switched to the 3-4-3. The reason he has never been able to get Wigan higher up the table is simply because they lose key players at the end of each season and he has to teach a whole new group of players his philosophy. With stability and the same group of players each season I think Martinez could make Liverpool into a good force.

It depends on FSG and the authority they give him. What would be the affect on results if the 'senior players' were left out? The most they (the senior players) could do would be to get their media stooges to stick the boot in via the media.Originally posted by colin85 View PostAVB would have Gerrard and Carra to deal with and that could lead to more problems for the young manager.

Well would he not be best using that whole new group of players at the beginning of the season as they are the ones that always finish well.Originally posted by acdmackay View PostI don't see why people are considering Martinez to be a bad appointment. Martinez would be an interesting one. Worked absolute wonders with Swansea, and they're still reaping the benefits of the work he sowed there. Plays attacking, pass and move football. It would obviously be a huge gamble though, at a time when I don't think we can really afford to take a huge gamble. Hmm.K ris90210

Because they are two different jobs, with different pressures and expectations. That line of thinking it often trotted out about the likes of The Moysiah: "Oh he's done all this with no money, just think what he could do with millions at a big Club". It's comparing apples to oranges.Originally posted by acdmackay View PostI don't see why people are considering Martinez to be a bad appointment. Martinez ffs maybe he'll do really well like he did this year and just keep us up, c'mon what top manager would want to come here now? we are now second rate, we need a Shankly styled inspirational manager, We need Rafa , he's got to be number one, he is the messiah, and I should know I've followed a few.
