When Broughton came in Hicks and Gillett were out of the frame in terms of setting the asking price.Originally posted by S-RED View PostH&G screwed us over; 550 mill was that there starting price for bidders............ ? it was only the fact that we were going bust & that cecil/ayre bottled & double dealed saved us from a rangers situation.

Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre insists owners Fenway Sports Group are taking the advice of "pre-eminent people in football" in their quest to find the right man to replace Kenny Dalglish.
Questions began to be asked about the ability of the Americans, who have only 19 months' experience of the sport, to conduct a successful search for their next manager having dispensed with director of football Damien Comolli last month.
"There has been some talk around the idea of how qualified are the people at Liverpool who remain to make this decision because there isn't a director of football," said Ayre. "You don't need to think that hard to work out John and Tom don't make decisions in life without taking the best possible advice available."
He went on: "I can tell you absolutely we are getting the best advice possible from pre-eminent people in football that will bode well in making that decision - and that is what you would expect of people at this level.
"It will take as long as it takes. The most important part being we have to get the right man for the job and Liverpool.
"But we are also cognisant we are going into a busy summer transfer window period and players will come back for pre-season so you want it in place to service that.
"You are driven by some time pressure but you need to manage that with the need to find the right person."
Ayre also dismissed suggestions the club was in crisis having also parted company with their head of sports science and head of communications in the last month.
"This view that there is turmoil because people have left over the last couple of months is not our feeling," he said. "They were decisions made because of this plan to go forward, because there was a belief those individuals weren't good enough to take it forward at that time.
"The idea that all these people are leaving and there is a crisis is nonsense."Are we winning?

I know its early in the managerial hunt, but the fact we have even approaced Martinez has left me feeling deflated. Why are we bothering with these sh!t-ass relegation expert managers, we may as well approach Alex McLeish and Steve Keane while were at it.
I'd much rather see us be bold and approach AVB, somebody with a record in winning trophies and a footballing philosophy to boot. Given the time at Chelsea, I think he would have built a formidable squad, and ultimately a dynasty, that was his vision.
Lets just pray the Martinez thing is a big f*cking smoke screen.....El Kloppo !!
"As a player I had fifth division skills and a first division brain. The result was a second division footballer"
"How could I justify picking up my pay cheque if I stand here and say the tie is over? It would be just as stupid as saying we're going to walk all over them [in the second leg]. I can always supply silly answers to silly questions...... Yes, the tie is over, but we have to play them anyway."

What about before that? When Broughton came in, Hicks and Gillett lost the legal authority to compose the makeup of the board, and thus Broughton and his majority could accept any offer they deemed fit - the key point here is that there was plenty of time during this period for would-be buyers to come forward and make their offers.Originally posted by S-RED View PostBecause RBS had **** themselves as we were dead & buried & they were in for 200mill ( Oh that figure again.........)
