In a nutshell for me

Can't agree with that more, just don't see how we'd attract the big guns with Martinez?Originally posted by Vermilion View PostGary Mac said yesterday, if Liverpool want to attract decent players, that don't come simply for the motivation of cash...you need a big manager with a track record.'The tide is very much in our court now.'

I think the director of football will have some sway as well - if we managed to bring in someone like Van Gaal or Begiristain that could have some pull. Also the whole thing has a 'new project' feel to it which might help sell the club.Originally posted by Carras_Shin_Pads View PostCan't agree with that more, just don't see how we'd attract the big guns with Martinez?
On top of that, we are Liverpool. I kindof subscribe to the school of thought, that if a player doesn't want to come to us then **** him.
We're going to have to be very astute in the transfer market this summer, that's for sure.K ris90210

It is obvious though, isn't it ? Any decent player will look at Martinez and say....long rebuilding job on for liverpool then, but with Capello the thinking might be more along the lines of....'He'll have em back in Champions league in no time'.
However, it all depends which road our owners are about to take us down, if it's the thrifty eye on the spending route...then Capello might not be a the right option, but with money to bring in certain players that he's knows, and is almost certain the returns he'll get from them, imo he could get us back up the league in no time.
But, the style of football would be an issue for many.
We need a manager that's going to spend whatever money very very wisely, we really need another striker, but one that can hit the back of the net often, but is wise enough to play well with both AC and Suarez, and compliment both, is a must for 1 of out buys.. imo.Last edited by Vermilion; 18-05-12, 09:26 AM.

All the German journos i've heard since our search started are saying Klopp is going no-where anyway, so he now sounds a little unrealistic.
Always said publically he'll honour his contract, and is as happy as Larry where he is, and with more he wants to achieve there.Last edited by Vermilion; 18-05-12, 09:48 AM.

Been seeing a lot of talk recently about us "attracting the very best". To an extent, personally I reckon we need to be moving away from that a little. We can't compete with the Chelseas & City's of this world in terms of fees and wages, not even close really. Until we get that new stadium and get back into the CL etc, we are going to have to be smart in the market more than anything else. Basically doing an even better version of what Newcastle have been of late, but without the selling bit.Originally posted by Carras_Shin_Pads View PostCan't agree with that more, just don't see how we'd attract the big guns with Martinez?
I'm sure that a "big name" manager may have some extra sway with a few players, but really is that going to make a huge difference in the grand scheme of things? If players see a club going somewhere, and still able to pay good money for players who perhaps still have to reach their full potential, then I think most achievable targets will come regardless of who is incharge.

I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?
