    AVB to speak to Liverpool
    May 19, 2012

    By Harry Harris, Football Correspondent

Andre Villas-Boas will this weekend be interviewed for the vacant managerial post at Liverpool.

Villas-Boas, who has been out of work since losing the Chelsea job in March, fits the criteria of the Liverpool owners as they target a young coach who can remain in the job long-term. Wigan manager Roberto Martinez, 38, also remains in the frame for the post.

ESPN sources have also revealed that Liverpool plan to approach Pep Guardiola via Luis Suarez's agent, who is the outgoing Barcelona coach's brother. Even so, they recognise that the 41-year-old is a long shot, considering he has already rejected Chelsea's overtures and remains insistent that he will take a year's sabbatical.

Fenway Sports Group's 'long list' of ten candidates does include older managers, and former England boss Fabio Capello, 65, may be sounded out. Rafael Benitez is not on that list "for the time being" but he might eventually be included, if some of the prime candidates fall by the wayside, and it is ESPN's understanding that he has registered his interest in the post.

Marseille's Didier Deschamps, Ajax's Frank de Boer and Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk are also on the long list, but Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers and Borussia Dortmund's Jurgen Klopp - who led his side to a league and cup double this season - have both turned down the chance to be interviewed. Klopp said: "I have been made aware of interest from England, and it is an honour to be linked with big clubs in the Premier League, but I have a contract with Dortmund until 2016 and am going nowhere."

Quiet day for rumours; they clearly work 9 to 5, Monday to Friday with a cheeky early finish on a Friday. Yanks out.

What's happened to all the ITK knows that were on Twitter breaking the Kenny news? Kenny was clearly the leak, obv.

And Darkon's post pisses all over my earlier post about working hours.

The leak has been plugged (In response to that email posted earlier in the thread).

The baffling way Fenway Sports Group are running Liverpool is further demonstrated by a website writer - hired by the American owners - claiming to be a supporter of the British National Party.

Merseysider Alan Kayll, who writes about Liverpool for FSG's New England Sports Network and has had close contact with chairman Tom Werner, proclaimed his backing for the BNP on online fans forum The Liverpool Way.

Kayll, who signs in as atk, stated: 'I have voted BNP for the past three years. I could not care less if people call me a racist.'

Kayll's connections with the BNP will cause acute embarrassment to the club, especially in the wake of the Luis Suarez racism debacle.

And Liverpool director of communications Jen Chang scored a PR own goal before starting in the job with his tweet last December that Patrice Evra, the victim of Suarez's racist abuse, should have been charged by the FA as well.

It is understood Kayll has already been told to stop using Twitter after criticising Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre. Kayll also had his racist remarks removed from The Liverpool Way, but responses to his views were kept on the site.

On being informed last night of Kayll's BNP leaning, Liverpool terminated their association with him and were taking all articles with his byline off the NESN website.

The club said he was an unpaid contributor, although given a seat in the Anfield press box.

The poll is for who we want to get the job not who will. Who do people now think it's gonna be. Myself? AVB.

Why would that be a PR own goal? Evra should have been charged by the FA.

After remembering today that Rafa refused to buy another striker to cover Torres I have come to the conclusion that AVB is the man!

Did he refuse or was he not able too?

Forget about the short term, we can't really compete, but we can plan and build for a better future. It's about time we started doing things our own way, the Liverpool way.
I'm sorry, I'm still waiting to have FSG prove themselves to us before I'll believe that they're right for the club, and I appreciate that others are optimistic and want to get right behind them, but what on earth was that?

"I'm liking the direction the club is going", we've just sacked loads of people, including the 3rd manager in as many years and finished 8th in the league.

"long term vision and a philosophy that will run throughout the club", what is this longterm vision and philosophy you speak of? I fail to see any evidence of this at this moment in time (we've just gone back to Kenny, and sacked him after 1.5 seasons and Roy after less than a season).

Hang on, I've just got to the second half of your post and it seems to contradict the first part? First half is a like the direction we're going in, the second half is Liverpool used to mean something and over the las 2/3 years we've become just another club?

Yep....the man who bought (or at least convinced Chelsea to) David Luiz as a CB

(FWIW....I think AVB is better than what he showed, or was allowed to show at Chelsea given the personnel and time afforded him, and he'd be preferable to Martinez, but he's still down the list for me)

I can't speak for Cream, but I am also more optimistic about the club's future right now. I think the appointment of Dalglish was bowing to pressure from the fans and with hindsight it was the wrong decision. The owners may not be football experts, but they're not new to sporting ventures and I feel that they will appoint the right people this time. I have no idea what's going on behind the scenes and I'm glad that they're hopefully using their own judgement to sort out the mess. The fans were right to get involved and speak out when Hicks and Gillett were destroying our club, now I think we should do what we do best and show our support instead of whining about things which may or may not be happening.

Having taken a few days to digest the thought of a new manager i would love to see Rafa back but if he is nt lined up then AVB would be great also. He has something to prove and was stitched up good and proper by Terry and co at Chelsea IMO. he has learnt his trade from Mourinho and is a good young manager. After Rafa he would be my next choice.
