That must be the single most mental suggestion I have read ever

Can you imagine the conversation when there is a conflict

    Hello Mr Van Gaal,

We know you are the visionary who mentored a gifted youth team to a Champions league triumph and those players never hit those heights after leaving you.

We also realize you are the genius who created a footballing system and style which harnessed the talents of relatively limited players at Alkmaar and led them to the league.

We also realize you have won leagues in multiple countries and your impact at those footballing clubs with respect to youth development is felt to this day.

But here you listen to Bobby, who will oversee you. Bobby may not have achieved much but his teams play dead ace in March and April.

    Thanks
    Ayre

Having said that if we manage to hire Van Gaal, we will love him, absolutely love him. He is the right kind of personality to invigorate the crowd. If the press, thought they had a rough time with Rafa and Kenny, wait till Van Gaal enters.

Why would he do a press conference at Wigan if he is not announcing that he is staying and reassuring their fans. If he was announcing that he was taking the liverpool job it would be a liverpool press conference.

I think Whelan is just playing games again.

Those who feel a press conference means Martinez coming for certain, I don't think you could be more wrong.

No decision has been made yet, so it could mean anything. I remember when Gerrard gave a press conference after bids from Chelsea. He stayed, didn't he.

I think because of the very public nature of Martinez's dalliances with us, he owes a press conference to the Wigan fans either way, to say he's going or staying.

Fair comment Danny, so it could be a Martinez press conference to say I'm quitting Wigan and then it's back to the speculation board. For me, if he says he is quitting, I can't see him going to Villa after turning them down previously.

Plus, no manager is ever appointed on a Tuesday, it's *always* a Thursday. Dem's the rules.

I seemed to have missed this about a press conference.

            When is it?

Tuesday Gib to the O. Sorry I can't be more specific ... let's say 3pm.

This became a little longer than I thought it would, but here's my ramblings on what I think atm..

Whether we like it or not, we're being dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st centuary in a way FSG think they can improve the Liverpool revenues globally.

It's worth re-reading those links on FSG posted by Pheonix. It says that they soon realised that Baseball is limited in getting anymore revenue than they have already out of the franchise. It is a closed market. Liverpool is global. They see far more scope to make far more money out of LFC than they ever could from the Red Sox. To do that, you need to increase the exposure and success of the team. Usually by winning things.

The pertenant question is who are FSG listening to now for them to come up with a plan to achieve this? Because they seem to be making their big move this summer.

They listened to Billy Beane and got Comolli in when they first took over. The theory being that people like Billy and Damien were stat mad and will find any competitive advantage they could gain from the data. This hasn't worked. They admited the approach was folly at the time Comolli was first out of the door, explaining that Damien no longer fits their vision.

We just don't know what their vision is right now. There are indications that DoF will be split across several appointments. That van Gaal is touted as a technical director but would like to manage (I wonder if the timing of this Telegraph piece was more to intice Rogers to the table, as both stories came out at the same time.)

They have apparently spoken to Cruyff, who's won a legal battle to stop van Gaal becoming CEO at Ajax, which seems to be counter intuitive to recomending someone you've had a big bust up with. Although Pep has worked with van Gaal at Barcelona, so the recomendation could have come from him.

Reading extracts from his book, he bangs on about making sure the team functions as a team through discipline and communication. Looking at some of the performances last season, we certainly needed a bit of that. Even Kenny said that the players were not prepared for some of the games, which maybe the fault of the managers role being to expansive. So FSG maybe thinking that van Gaal would be the ideal candidate to put a rocket up Henderson and Downings ass.

Actualy, I think those two would flourish under a more disciplined system where players have orchestrated zonal instructions off the ball, rather than just rellying on their individual skill and judgement.

I can't say I know too much about Rogers or Martinez. They clearly have FSGs interest. And they clearly think that either of these two would fit into their system.

Interestingly enough, both the youth coaches have now been promoted after spending a few years implementing their 4-2-3-1 program. Bringing the academy knowledge to the first team table.

We only know a few pieces of the jigsaw at the moment. I'm certainly not hitting the panic button yet, even if Martinez or Rogers is announced our new manager next Tuesday, I think that is only half and maybe not even the most important part of the story just yet. Because if what we've read about Henry is correct, he's certainly looking at this as a finacial success and seems to be acting very boldly with his plans to this aim.

I think what people are rightly concerned about, is this is a very alien way of going about football in this country. I'm not even sure it's going to be like Barca's model, it could well be a collective of intelligence and experience rather than a managerial figurehead dictating his ideas. We have no idea right now.

I'm in the lets see what they come up with side of the fence. It could all be a naive balls up in the epic scale of proportions. I've just got a feeling that FSG have bided their time and have thought thoroughly through their ideas with respected advice.

Be pretty embarrassing for us if he announces he's staying rather then joining us.

How the mighty will have fallen to be turned down by Martinez.

Parry managed this (with Rafa) and kept it on the quiet so why couldnt they manage it

Then we have the entire interview selection ****ing nonsense, it was far too broad

Then we have the Martinez situation how he is a front runner for the LFC job is frankly beyond incredible

Mind you what do you expect when the process is being run by someone who was instrumental and involved in the sacking of Rafa and replacing him with Hodgson
So are you saying that they should have gone behind Dalglish's back to look for a replacement? Because I for one would have found that extremely disrespectful to a club legend.

Regarding the interview process - all this tells me is that they want to speak to as many people as possible because they want to make the right decision. All this 'too broad' stuff is just spin for the most part.

Is there any truth that Pep can't sign for another team while he takes a year out. Someone was telling me Barcelona added a clause into his contract.

not really about dalglish more about the future of the club ....ain't no one man bigger the the club...was clear results were not going for dalglish or the club and it is/was in the long term benefit of the club for the owners to have a back up plan

Nah I doubt it, if that was true I reckon it would have been more widely reported, especially when all the Chelsea speculation came out.

Mate, can you imagine the backlash the owners would have faced if they were caught tapping up another manager while Dalglish was in charge? It would have been Hicks / Gillett mk2.

They've done things the right way. People are panicking as though the season were about to start. We've got time guys.

I think you're right. I also think, if Rafa is not being considered, that they want to break away from what some may call the spectre of Liverpools past.
