Martinez is very different from Bodge. Bodge had already shown that he was good at getting limited players to achieve results that are good enough to quite comfortably keep them up. He had also shown with Blackburn and Inter that he wasn't as capable with teams at the other end of the table.

Martinez hasn't had those opportunities so we don't know yet what he could do with decent players. What he has done is kept Wigan up but leaking goals like a sieve. Opponents play as well as you let them. Martinez teams are awful without the ball.
    Never knowingly optimistic

I would feel more confident of making top 4 quicker with someone like Van Gaal before Martinez.

But i could be completely wrong, it's just how i feel based on what i know about both managers so far, and what they've achieved, obvioulsy age and time in the game is against Martinez, but we need a manager now.

Just giving an opinion based on what we know went on, which was... players not really happy with AVB, wanting him gone...and once he was gone, they needed little motivation to perform from then on, imo.

It's a short run of games, that went well in the cups, Bayern had their chances to win the final, they didn'nt, but Chelsea hardly starved them of chances to score more than they did, and that's football sometimes.

edit: f****n Di Matteo! ****! why why why...
I completely understand the opinion, I just think that he had that bit o'luck that can make all the difference. And that even this deserves an appreciative nod or wink.

And besides, we had our share of that luck in 2005.

I suppose that's where Van Gaal (or the like) comes in. If Martinez isn't willing to learn from someone like that, then he doesn't deserve the post. But I feel he would be.

No doubt about that, often luck is the deciding factor in football, but you dont base your opinion on a managers ability on it is all i'm saying.

Could do with a fair dollop ourselves just now.

Fair enough. If we all felt the same way or agreed on everything this Forum wouldn't exist.

Not at all. I'm basing my opinion on him winning the Champions League. In the same way that I have an opinion of Rafa doing the same, and it's something that he is rightly lauded for.

Agreed, we need a truckload of luck.
