Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."
This feels like Rocky 3...when apollo trains rocky to be a beast again! Hope that LFC beast is unleashed on the PL next season...knock 'em out cold Buck!! YNWA
Possibly no Dof F uhmmm so Rodgers is going to be the man who buys the players. Not really a huge name in British football, not really going to attract the big names. If true yet more concerns over him getting the job.

The club at the moment won't attract the big names because we are not in the champions league, I think we'll need to buy shrewdly either the players not yet big names or players who can't get into the 1st 11 of the so called big clubs around Europe who will fit into our system better,Brendon Rodgers
will of been heard of by players if he is admired by mourinho and has been eager to learn by going to Spain's camp etc
If Martinez had impressed FSG, they would have scrapped the DoF role and given him full control. As it stands, they've gone with the most impressive candidate. I know part of it will be saving face - but Whelan didn't need to make reference to Martinez turning us down because of our new structure, as now he looks daft* - he'd have been better keeping it simple and just saying Martinez said no to us.
* even dafter than he does already.
Maybe they are not overly impressed with having to scrap their plan (if indeed they are scrapping it or at least modifying it somewhat) but have been forced into it - they could have spoken to Martinez and upon hearing that he wouldn't work under a DOF thought to themselves: "Yeah, Ok Roberto, thanks for your time....we'll now move on to Brendan", and when they got to Brendan found themselves in the same position, so now it's "Oh **** we'd better give some ground otherwise no cunt (that matches our preferred profile) will manage us".
This is all speculation anyway because we don't know a. What their original plans were, and b. If they have have compromised, and if so how big the compromise is - however that article did suggest a pretty significant compromise.
