    Birmingham Match Thread

    Team from the offal:

Robbie Fowler will captain Liverpool and be partnered in attack with Craig Bellamy for tonight's Carling Cup 4th Round clash with Birmingham City at St Andrews. Fowler starts for the first time since scoring in the last round against Reading; and he is joined by Bellamy who has recovered from injury.

Rafa Benitez has named a strong side for this match with Momo Sissoko and Bolo Zenden at the centre of midfield and Jermaine Pennant will line up against his former club.

Liverpool - Dudek, Warnock, Agger, Paletta, Peltier, Sissoko, Zenden, Pennant, Gonzalez, Bellamy, Fowler. Subs - Martin, Kuyt, Alonso, Carragher, Guthrie.

    So -

    Dudek
    Peltier Paletta Agger Warnock
    Pennant Momo Zenden Gonzalez
    Bellamy Fowler

That back 4 bothers me, and the team just looks a bit weak defensively but let's see how it goes

Agger or Zenden as first scorer

But it probably will be Fowler, with Pennant playing a blinder.
      Looking forward to see Peltier.

As expected. Hopefully Pennant and Speedy will cause problems.

uh-oh that is a pretty inexperienced defense.....

only the carling cup though, **** it.

Mind you aren't we the only decent team left in it apart from arsenal?

Its actually the midfield that bothers me, i know its more experienced than the back 4, just not a big fan of the Sissoko-Zenden partnership in midfield.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                          * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

What are everyones thoughts on this match anyway?

Don't think it's going to be as easy as some make out.
Brum will be looking not to shame themselves again, and we've put out a team with a fairly inexperienced back line.

Think it's going to be a tight 2-1 affair in our favour.
