I hope Fallows brings his Football Manager CD with him

The one who just signed an 8 year contract?

If they have just appointed the next in a series of managers who comes in and wants to change all the staff from top to bottom of the club then its a bad idea.

Without an experienced football man in their inner circle I think appointing a DoF that could work for them and with a new manager was always a big ask. They may come back to having one over time - ideally promoting someone from within.

We'll have to see what type of players we'll sign over next little while before we can really form any opinions on Fallows and his team.

Scouting for "Oil Rich" club and the club that is trying to get back into CL is very different and hopefully he'll be able to deliver

No idea. And anyway what do contracts mean in the world of football? Not much. The only beneficiary of them is the individual and not the club

Must mean he's quite happy there though and would cost a bit to buy him out if he would want to leave

Remind me, what compensation are we paying Swansea for Rodgers?

And what about transfer fees for, er, players under, er, contract?

Anyway, if we want a top, top scout, we shouldn't bother with someone at Newcastle who recently penned an eight year deal and instead we must swoop for Bear Grylls.
                        .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

What's £4M compensation to a Premier league club? Balance that with the amount Swansea have gained from Rodgers taking them into the Premier league, surviving their first season comfortably. Assume they get relegated next season they will still get parachute payments too. All in all, he has guaranteed them £120m + already. Compare £4m gained from losing him to the £120M+ they got with him - it's fair to say the compensation is not really a huge amount at all.

But if he was out of contract or if his contract had meant nothing to the club, they'd have got nothing. So it's £4m more than that.

That's kind of missing the point. A club benefits far more from an asset (be it player or manager) whilst they are at the club than the one off fee they recieve when they are gone. It's simple economics - ROI ! A prime example was the sale of Alonso - we got good money for him but have failed to qualify for the Champions league losing out on revenue (around £80m) and we have never recovered since he left.

And now I will contradict myself. Newcastle benefited massively by selling Andy Carroll!
