    Corners, Pennant and fast mice

We seem to be scoring from corners these days.

Both Speedy and Pennant take a better corner than Stevie.

Pennant gets a lot of stick and does look like a rabbit in the headlights at time. But his contribution for goals from corners will be usefull. Wether he'll ever settle at his dream club time will tell, but we should give him that time

has Stevie ever taken a corner that's resulted in a goal?

Speedy last night looked up for it and by the nature of being a wide player will at times dritf out of games.
He has always impresed me when i've seen him live and looks to have the strength to survive in the PL.
Its times like these we learn to live again FF

I have a suspicion that I take better corners than Gerrard.

However it does seem that the standard of corners in general in the PL has gone down since, say the early-mid 90's. So many corners seem to hit the first man or go aimlessly past the back post. Maybe there is some specific thing that has changed in the ball or the surface around the corner flag, but I swear corners used to be far more consistantly put 'in the mixer' (to use an Atkinsonism).

Agree with you about giving JP time aswell.

Even those annoying short corners looks like creating something now.

Gerrard should never take corners - generally he drifts them in and rather than being a threatening ball they are just asking to be cleared. He would be better in and around the box where he would be a genuine threat.

I think our recent success from corners shows that just about any other LFC player can deliver a better ball into the danger areas than Stevie G. Last night even our short corners looked like they could come to something and that's rare.

I am very much in agreement with you about Gerrard not taking corners. Gonzo definitely takes a better corner, and when he or Pennant is in the game, they should take them ahead of Stevie.

Moreover, Stevie's a big fellow who would present an aerial threat to get on the end of those corners, or would be a threat lurking outside of the penalty area to potentially punish the opposing defenders for any half-clearances.

Seems a better use of resources to have someone else take the corners, and have Stevie as one of the guys who could potentially be on the end of them.

Ive never understood why someone who is half decent in the air IMO, that Gerrard doesnt get in the box for corners, leave them to someone else and give us another threat in there.
Just being in or around the box for corners would draw players to him and open it up for the others, Hypia, Crouch etc.

I agree - throw in's are **** too - Football pitches should be developed like a Ice Hockey stadium with walls all the way round the pitch to stop the ball going out of play and keep the game moving - it's the future

Don't know if your joking or not about this but I think it would be a great idea. Imagine, a game only stopping because of free kicks...
I'd still like to see corners tho
