I'm trying to comfort myself with the idea that Allen and Lucas are still to come in for Henderson and Spearing. Hopefully Downing will **** off too and Bellamy and Suarez can still come in.

We're poor, but to be fair they've played loads already, we're without a few players and this is our first competitive match. Oh, and we're the 8th best side in the EPL, behind Everton and Newcastle and on the same points as Fulham... I think we may be expecting too much.

Yes we're ****e, but its going to be a long time yet before we start playing with any sort of rhythm, maybe 3 or 4 months into the season.

It is the lack of paitence and intelligence that worry.

The more games we play, the more people will realise the grim reality. We still have too many **** players to be a decent team, the so called "philosophy" of the manager is irrelevant when ****houses like Jay Spearing and Joe Cole get playing time.

First game at the start of a long succesfull reign Gerrard back to his best, Cole finds something hidden somewhere and starts delivering, Shelvey get's his major breakthrough and Reina back on top!

Well excited about first competitive game of the season, and hopefully it can help calm the borefest of negativity on here at the moment. A good result and we are well on the way to bigger things (it can hardly get smaller than this).

Hope we play a few youngsters and give them more time to show for next season.

Anyone know if players are cup-tied in europe if they play the qual for us?
