Liverpool agree £1m fee for Bayer Leverkusen striker Samed Yesil

    • 18-year-old German starred at Under-17 World Cup
    • Will become Brendan Rodgers' fourth summer signing

Liverpool have agreed a fee of around £1m to sign the striker Samed Yesil from Bayer Leverkusen.

The 18-year-old German, who has represented his country at Under-16, 17 and 18 level, is a promising young forward who scored six goals for Germany at the Under-17 World Cup last year.

Yesil was not involved for Leverkusen, now managed by the former Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia, when they played Liverpool in a pre-season friendly at Anfield earlier this month but has an impressive goalscoring record at youth level.

He will become Brendan Rodgers's fourth summer signing after Fabio Borini, Joe Allen and Oussama Assaidi.

Rodgers hopes to make more established signings before Friday's transfer deadline but his prospects are heavily dependent on off-loading the likes of Andy Carroll and Charlie Adam.

Time will tell but I don't think we will see him with L4 first team squad much unless we have injuries.
At the age of 17 last year. Same trajectory as Raheem last season, and we know where he is now.

I don't think we're actually very different in our expectations, though. I'm not at all expecting him to be in the 18 with any regularity or anything like that. But comparing him to Joao Carlos, who hasn't come near the first team, might be a bit unfair. Yesil, at the very least in cups, should be challenging. Morgan's supposedly starting tonight, and I'd guess they're at about the same region.

                Another one!

                .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Tony Barrett reported it. A £1m steal.

Did he play in our pre-season friendly?
                        Are we winning?

I don't think you can compare them as Raheem has been groomed for almost 2 years through the youth system where Kenny and Rodgers now had the chance to see him in training and in the games.

Lot of things fell into Raheem's favor and timing was perfect (in contrast to Suso who should be a member of the first team but he is not so who knows).

Not sure we can say the same thing for Yesil as he missed the entire pre-season so Rodgers will have very little time to observe him first hand unless he joins first team squad right way, which may or may not happen.

I didn't say that he may not be an ocassional member of the squad but imo he will not be a player we can rely on this year,

My comparison with Teixeira was that he joined reserve team right away (too bad he got injured) when he signed from Porto and my guess Yesil will follow the same suit.

                          We will see I suppose.

Fair enough. I'm not comparing him to Raheem in what he can do for us - Raheem is a regular first-teamer and Yesil won't be that here now, for many of the reasons you pointed out - but in terms of his talent and how ready he could be for first-team football. Compare him to Joao Carlos or Morgan at the same point and he's significantly ahead, and for that reason I expect him to be ahead of where they fell in the pecking order. I think he'll be close to challenging for the first team, but I would certainly agree that he's far from someone we can rely on and he'll probably only make occasional appearances.
