That is beautiful, bought more tears, as did the accounts posted on here.Originally posted by Lecter View PostCarol Ann Duffy is Poet Laureate – a coveted title awarded to a handful of poetry’s most celebrated and talented names. A graduate of Liverpool University, Carol Ann offered the ECHO this poem to mark the momentous events of Wednesday. We are proud to publish it today.
THE Cathedral bell, tolled, could never tell;
nor the Liver Birds, mute in their stone spell;
or the Mersey, though seagulls wailed, cursed, overhead,
in no language for the slandered dead...
not the raw, red throat of the Kop, keening,
or the cops’ words, censored of meaning;
not the clock, slow handclapping the coroner’s deadline,
or the memo to Thatcher, or the tabloid headline...
but fathers told of their daughters; the names of sons
on the lips of their mothers like prayers; lost ones
honoured for bitter years by orphan, cousin, wife -
not a matter of football, but of life.
Over this great city, light after long dark;
truth, the sweet silver song of the lark.

Having had time to reflect on this a bit more now, I am left feeling with a slightly sour taste with a lot of the coverage this week and people falling over themselves to categorically report and publicise The Truth.
Cameron and Milliband were right to apologise as they did. But the fact that repeatedly pointed to 'new evidence' left me feeling uncomfortable. The evidence is not new. It has always been there, and all governments have been complicit in leaving it there. Let's not forget that it was the petition which led to the evidence being reviewed. If it was not for that petition, signed by over 140,000 people, Cameron's government and any future government of Milliband's would have been just as complicit in continuing the cover up as their predecessors.
Then we come to the newspapers and wider media. Why have they stood and watched the protests for 23 years without feeling the need to dig deeper and uncover the truth? They have the resources and the contacts to do this. They chose not. Every single one of them turned a blind eye for 23 years. Now, there is a story, it is (rightly) front page news and they are competing to report the story in as positive light as possible.Oh I don't know.

I agree with the comments about "new evidence". The evidence isn't new but it is newly in the public domain. Conflating the two allows people and institutions responsible to deflect blame, it muddies the truth.Originally posted by dom9 View PostHaving had time to reflect on this a bit more now, I am left feeling with a slightly sour taste with a lot of the coverage this week and people falling over themselves to categorically report and publicise The Truth.

I know what you mean about the coverage although I don't agree. Yes, politicians and media could have done more but, with some obvious exceptions at the heart of the campaign, we could all have done more. I think it's better to focus on the real wrongdoers..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Well, its ITV running a story from a tweet, which is hardly re-assuring as likely to happen (although I hope its true), but I think this week has shown that there are thousands upon thousands of fans at other clubs (even our rivals) that are 100% everything that The Real Truth represents.Originally posted by Assassin View PostThats a nice touch from the Arsenal fans
Arsenal fans wanting some sort of tribute, Sunderland flying flags at half-mast, Man Utd fans asking questions about whether they should be doing something for the upcoming game etc etc.....plus the litany of articles and editorials this week.
People just acting as decent people, football rivalries be damned."I will make the boys feel your support"
