Hillsborough memorial tickets sold for £100 in tout scam

Ten free tickets to service marking 25th anniversary of disaster sold as match day tickets for this Sunday

Free tickets for a memorial service to commemorate the Hillsborough football stadium disaster have been reportedly sold for £100 by touts as fake match tickets.

Ten free tickets for the service, being held at Liverpool's Anfield ground in April, were sold as tickets for the club's match against Swansea on Sunday, the BBC said.

Hillsborough Justice Campaign's Steve Kelly, who was at the match and was told of the scam by stewards, said it “beggars belief”.

He said: “The fact it was the anniversary tickets just goes to show how low some people will go.”

A Liverpool FC spokesman told the BBC: “It was disgraceful anyone would consider using the tickets allocated to those who wish to attend a memorial service to remember the 96 Liverpool supporters who so tragically lost their lives at Hillsborough, for illegal gain.

”Supporters should only buy tickets through official channels and we regularly remind fans about the dangers of purchasing from touts and others.

“The technology deployed at our turnstiles will refuse entry to anyone without an official ticket.”

The service will be held at 2.15pm on April 15 to mark the 25th anniversary of the disaster. Free tickets are available from the club until March 31.

Ninety-six Liverpool fans died as a result of a crush at Sheffield Wednesday's Hillsborough stadium during Liverpool's FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest on April 15, 1989.

New inquests into the deaths of the Hillsborough victims are due to start in Warrington on March 31 and will take six months to complete.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is also examining accounts of the tragedy made by police amid suspicion that they were later amended.

Heard this on the radio. Shameful. How did he get away with it though? Who forks out £100 to a tout without even reading the ticket? It surely must have said something like "Hillsborough Memorial Service" on the ticket instead of "Liverpool v Swansea".

The Attorney General asks people to take care when commenting online ahead of the Hillsborough inquest
              AGO office
AGO building at 20 Victoria Street, London
The inquests into the deaths of the 96 people who died as a result of the events at Hillsborough on 15 April 1989 are due to begin on 31 March 2014.

The inquests will be heard by a coroner (Lord Justice Goldring) together with a jury.

Editors, publishers and social media users should note that the inquest proceedings are currently active for the purpose of the Contempt of Court Act 1981.

The Attorney General wishes to draw attention to the risk of publishing material, including online, which could create a substantial risk that the course of justice in the inquests may be seriously impeded or prejudiced, particularly as this inquest involves a jury.

This risk could arise by commentary which may prejudge issues that witnesses may give evidence about, or matters that the jury will need to consider in reaching their verdict. The inquests could also be prejudiced by publishing details of material (whatever its source) which may not form part of the evidence at the inquest.

The Attorney General’s Office will be monitoring the coverage of these proceedings.

Editors, publishers and social media users should take legal advice to ensure they are in a position to fully comply with the obligations they are subject to under the Contempt of Court Act. They are also reminded of the advisory note issued by Lord Justice Goldring on 11 February 2014.

LFC plan sign of unity for service

Liverpool Football Club today announced its campaign to unify all sports fans from across the world in remembering the 96 supporters who tragically lost their lives at Hillsborough.

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the disaster, which occurred on April 15, 1989, the club are asking fans, followers, sporting institutions and general sports fans to donate a scarf as a sign of global unity for the Hillsborough families.

Each scarf received will be laid out on the pitch at Anfield on the day of the annual Hillsborough memorial service - Tuesday, April 15 - in the shape of the number '96'.

The club invite any kind of club scarf, no matter what sport they represent, and request that submissions are made no later than Tuesday, April 8.

Those donating scarves are also encouraged to write a personal note to the Hillsborough families on their chosen item, for an additional sign of support on the 25th anniversary.

Margaret Aspinall, chair of the Hillsborough Family Support Group, which is planning the memorial service, commented: "The annual memorial service in memory of the 96 is always a moving occasion for the families and survivors.

"We already receive so much support from people worldwide, but if we could create what would be a fantastic symbol of unity on the pitch from donated scarves from across the world, this would be a truly moving way of bringing the world together for the 25th anniversary of Hillsborough."

All donated scarves should be sent to: Hillsborough Scarves, 20 Chapel Street, Liverpool, L3 9AG - and should arrive by Tuesday, April 8 to be guaranteed to be included in the pitch display during the memorial service.

International supporters are advised to check international postage times, costs and import logistics ahead of sending their donation; the club will not be able to pay for postage of donated scarves.

Kenny Dalglish has also written to all 92 English league clubs as well as the English, Northern Irish, Scottish and Welsh national teams to ask for their support by way of donating their club scarf to the proposed symbol of 96.

After the service, the club's official charity, the Liverpool FC Foundation, will donate all scarves to local good causes, including homeless charities, along with a signed item of LFC memorabilia. Therefore, the club unfortunately will not be able to return donated scarves.

i noticed this on the sky footy page.

The Football Association has announced plans to delay kick-off times next month on the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster.

All games between April 11-14 in the FA Cup, Premier League, Football League and Conference will begin seven minutes later than scheduled as a mark of respect to the 96 Liverpool supporters who died at the 1989 FA Cup semi-final.

Liverpool's game against Nottingham Forest that day was halted six minutes after kick-off as players became aware of the tragedy unfolding in Sheffield.

This season's FA Cup semi-finals take place at Wembley on the anniversary weekend.

Arsenal's tie with Wigan will now begin at 5.07pm on April 12, while Hull's game against Sheffield United will kick off at 4.07pm the following day.

A minute's silence will be observed before kick-off at all grounds.

As part of the club's plans to mark the 25th anniversary of Hillsborough on Tuesday, April 15, Liverpool FC have launched a special 'Patch for the 96' campaign.

When the club comes together for a memorial service at Anfield next month, a quarter of a century will have passed since the tragedy occurred and 96 supporters lost their lives.

The official commemorative iron-on patch - which costs £2, with all profits to be donated to Hillsborough families - is available to purchase from official club stores and the Official LFC Online Store.

First-team players will show their support for the fundraising initiative by wearing the patch for each of the Reds' final three home fixtures, beginning against Manchester City on April 13.

In addition, the Liverpool Ladies team will also sport the patch from the opening match of their season, with City on April 17, until the Women's Super League takes a mid-season break in June.

Margaret Aspinall, chair of the Hillsborough Family Support Group (HFSG), commented: "The 25th anniversary of Hillsborough is an important milestone for the families.

"The 'Patch for the 96' is a special way for all football fans from across the world to come together in support and is a commemorative sign of unity."

Check out the embedded video and graphic below for further information on the patch, including instructions of how to apply to suitable clothing and garments.

The patch will also be worn by former Liverpool players at the 'Celebration of the 96' charity match event, arranged by the HFSG and scheduled for Monday, April 21 at the Reds' home ground.

That day is to include a 90-minute friendly encounter between local Reds legends and international legends, plus a community football session on the pitch with first-team, Academy and Ladies players.

Tickets for the one-off event are priced at £15 for adults and £5 for children, with all proceeds to be split between the HFSG and the Liverpool FC Foundation, the club's official charity. Click here for more details.

Just as a thought guys, could we not organise an EST shipment of 96 scarves for this? A quick look online shows a company in Leeds that will make scarves in limited quantities, for about £5-6 each... If we could get 96 of us good folks to sign up quick time, then we could get a batch of 96 knocked up, hopefully in time... Maybe even get double made. As they are custom scarves, we could get an EST message on them too... Dunno if it's a big ask on the site owners to organise it, but seeing as they have a paypal thingy in operation already, it may be an 'easy' focal point? People could donate what they can... A limited run of 200 or 250 scarves made, 96 shipped to LFC, and the rest distributed as a raffle between contributors?? I'm crap at organising things, but I'm sure we have some great organisers in our midst... It would be a nice gesture, and any surplus funds could be donated to the HSG or to the site running costs... Like I said, just an idea...

The site I found was http://new.fosterenterprises.co.uk/, but if anyone knows of a Liverpool based company that could do similar, then even better

                      From their website...\
Production will begin and will be completed in 10 to 15 days.
Your order will then be shipped to you and should arrive within 1 to 3 days (UK mainland).

So time would be of the essence to meet the April 8th deadline.

Thinking about it, i'll kick in £96 to get the ball rolling if its a going concern... I'll even act as the money collector if it makes it easier to separate it from general EST donations... just pm me, and I'll give you my paypal account, and send you a receipt, in case we don't make the cutoff amount, so I can make sure you're refunded. I can pressgang my sister in Liverpool to receive the shipment... I'll even be proud to drive up from Brum to hand deliver them to Anfield... 25 years guys... what's a fiver or so for the team we love, and the fellow fans we tragically lost?

If we can do it, it will require a design... I'm thinking Mostar is the guy... and a great motto, to make it an EST special... Answers on a postcard...

I'm a digital designer and would be happy to help put together a website to sell raffle tickets...whatever the price per ticket, then we randomly select X amount of order numbers to be given the scarves.

I recently did a website for one of the legal firms representing some of the families. I had to sit there going through photographs from the day, it was absolutely heartbreaking.

PM me if you need any assistance.

Everton FC to unveil permanent Goodison memorial to Hillsborough 96.

Everton Football Club are to unveil a permanent memorial to the Hillsborough 96 at Goodison Park.

The move comes just weeks ahead of the 25th anniversary of the disaster which cost 96 Liverpool fans their lives and only days before of the start of the long-awaited new inquests, which begin in Warrington on Monday.

The Blues have stood shoulder-to shoulder with their Red neighbours since the tragic events of April 1989, helping to organise the chain of scarves across Stanley Park that linked Anfield to Goodison seven days after the disaster and providing fitting opponents for the all-Merseyside FA Cup final at Wembley the following month.

The gesture of solidarity following the landmark publication of the Hillsborough Independent Panel report in September 2012, when two youngsters led the teams out at Goodison Park wearing Liverpool and Everton shirts with the numbers nine and six emblazoned on the back, symbolised the unity across Merseyside that has existed throughout the long fight for justice and is likely to feature as part of the memorial.

Everton's Head of Media and Communications Mark Rowan said: "Plans at this moment are in the early stages. But we have a commitment to unveil a memorial to coincide with the 25th anniversary of that tragic day.

"Evertonians and the Club have always stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the families of the Hillsborough victims during their long fight for justice and we feel it is fitting that our home should have a permanent tribute to the 96."
