"The Truth", followed by three sub-headlines: "Some fans picked pockets of victims", "Some fans urinated on the brave cops" and "Some fans beat up PC giving kiss of life"..........23 years later "Im sorry" and he thinks thats made it all better

I have never despised anyone in my life but this man has broken that trend - Grade A cunt!!
People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

Tom Werner, chairman, Liverpool Football Club, said: "On behalf of myself, John and everyone at the club, I would like to extend our thoughts and prayers on this hugely significant and deeply emotional day to everyone affected by the Hillsborough disaster. Today the world has heard the real truth about what happened at Hillsborough.

"As a football club, we will continue to remember those who died and support the families who lost loved ones on that terrible day. We hope that today's findings will give some comfort to the families and survivors and go some way to addressing some of the key questions that have hung over the Hillsborough tragedy for the last 23 years."

Apparently some were changed by lawyers acting on behalf of the police force too.

LFC managing director Ian Ayre today spoke of his 'sadness, anger and pride' following the release of the Hillsborough Independent Panel's report.

Today is a hugely significant day for everyone connected to Liverpool Football Club. What's your initial reaction to the panel's findings?

I guess three things. Firstly, sadness. Sadness that this whole tragedy was avoidable, and that even when it happened more could have been done to save lives. Secondly, anger. Anger at the cover up we now see, and knowing that our fans, the families and victims have been unnecessarily troubled for 23 years because of that. And thirdly, pride - because I think anyone connected to Liverpool Football Club can be proud today, proud at what the families, our fans around the world and fans of other football clubs have contributed to what we have achieved today. The hard pressure and hard work that people put in, the dedication people put in, and the tireless efforts that delivered all that happened today - that gives us great pride as a football club.

How important is it that the wider world now knows the real truth about what happened on that day?

It's vital because even in recent times we've seen people still stick to this myth that Liverpool fans were responsible for this tragedy. They now know what we've known for 23 years, which is that Liverpool fans weren't responsible. We've exonerated ourselves and this report has exonerated them today. That's a vital ingredient in making progress.

You watched the Prime Minister apologise live on TV on behalf of the Government and the country. What stood out most for you about what he had to say?

His use of the phrase 'double injustice'. Not only the fact these people died unnecessarily, but the fact a process ensued and dragged their names through the mud. A final admission from the Prime Minister that this was an injustice and that these things did happen, and that our fans and the victims were exonerated - for me that was the most important part of his statement.

Is today a testament to the tireless campaign the families have undertaken for the last 23 years?

Undoubtedly. I don't think there is anybody who will see or hear about today's report that won't have huge admiration for the families. They are an amazing bunch of people and anybody who is as fortunate as myself to have met them knows how much they have put into this. And it's not just about the families: as I've said before, our fans, and fans from other clubs, that have campaigned to get this today for the families, the victims and the survivors - they all deserve their praise today.

For the club and the families, what do you think happens next?

I guess that's a question for the families, and will probably be initially determined by the findings of the Attorney General, which the Prime Minister mentioned today. All we can say is that whatever transpires, we'll be there to support them as we have been throughout.

Mackenzie's lack of contrition over the years has been unbelievable. He must have known for a very long time how wrong he was but it takes a exposé of this magnitude to force an apology out of him. He has only reversed his position because he has been caught and shown up as the cunt that he is.

I was at the replayed semi-final after Hillsborough and I still have strong memories of the atmosphere inside and outside the ground. Today's reports are some shred of comfort to those affected by this tragedy but until many of the officers involved in the cover up are prosecuted, and until cunts like Mackenzie are vilified by just about everyone in the country, I don't think that the general outrage can be laid to rest.

1540: South Yorkshire police get the date of the Hillsborough disaster wrong in their official statement. They say the disaster happened on the "18th April 1989", but say further down the document it happened on the correct date, the 15th April 1989.

1542: And here's that statement in full: "On 18th April 1989 [sic], 96 of the Liverpool fans went to Hillsborough to watch the FA Cup Semi Final and died as a result of the disaster. On that day South Yorkshire Police failed the victims and families. The police lost control. In the immediate aftermath senior officers sought to change the record of events. Disgraceful lies were told which blamed the Liverpool fans for the disaster."

1544: The second half of the police statement: "Statements were altered which sought to minimise police blame. These actions have caused untold pain and distress for over 23 years. I am profoundly sorry for the way the force failed on 15th April 1989 and I am doubly sorry for the injustice that followed and I apologise to the families of the 96 and Liverpool fans. South Yorkshire Police is a very different place in 2012 from what it was 23 years ago and we will be fully open and transparent in helping to find answers to the questions posed by the Panel today."

Just got done reading half the report. Truly shocking. I cannot imagine how the families of the affected must feel.

I agree with this, I don't think comforting is the right word to use here. Another inquiry will bring back a lot of memories and a lot of bad feeling

Like I've already said, I won't be celebrating today because it's only the start of a new chapter in the fight for justice. However, I do find some comfort in being able to finally close the last long and very difficult chapter and also because the fans have been completely exonerated after all these years.

In a press conference in Liverpool, Trevor Hicks says there were two disasters at Hillsborough: what happened on the day, and what happened afterwards. He condemns the "contrived, manupulated, vengeful and spiteful" attempt by various agencies to cover up the truth.
Hicks asks any Sun journalists present to leave the press conference. No one leaves, though, as one of the other family members points out "would they tell the truth?"

Best wishes to everyone affected by this today. The strength of everyone involved is amazing, but with everything that happened afterwards there are a lot more than 96 victims and I hope everyone gets the justice they deserve.
