Top 3 places are nailed on, 4th up for grabs, the squads we have to beat to that spot are, Arsenal, Spurs, er....er.......erm......Everton ? Newcastle ?

It's hardly an impossible task is it, all we need to do is avoid shooting ourselves in the foot every other week and we'll be in with a great chance.

Everton will finish above us. As will Arsenal. So by that I think we will be looking at battling Newcastle and Tottenham for 6th place. I think we'll end up 7th or 8th but we will be starting to show progress towards the end of the season. Also they say this is our worst start since the 62-63 season. That was our first year back in the first division where I believe we finished 8th then. The next year Shankly won us the league SO LETS BE POSITIVE!

expectation for the year is for top 6.

we are capable of top 4. citeh, manure and the chelski have top 3 stick on IMO but the arse, barcodes and the bitters will all be there or there about with ourselves and possibly london liverpool if AVB can work miracles. it'll be tight and i do reckon 4th - 8th to be seperated by maybe 3-6 points.

a good cup run in either domestic and group stages of europa (sooner were out the better IMO but a chance to play the youngsters - we dont have a big enough squad to go hell for leather in this comp).

i expcet to see a good run of performances second half of season and a couple of incoming players too in january.

My expectation is to play a much better passing game by Christmas. All with non-star names. Missing goals and opportunties to take points where we should. Then post-Christmas to sign a decent mid-level striker who will see us score more freely finishing our season top 10.

Would prefer more, but I'm a realist as Rome wasn't built in a day.

Based on what? Their squad is paper-thin, as always. A few injuries and they'll struggle.

IMO we'll finish 5th or 6th, with a very slim outside chance of 4th if Spurs AND Arsenal both **** up. The first half of the season will be difficult, as we get used to the new system, but I honestly think we'll kick on after Christmas.

Our first team is good enough for 4th, but we lack the quality in reserve to be able to maintain that over the whole season.

During the summer I felt if we moved on the players we have, signed the players we did, plus also signed at least one top goal scorer, one top attacking winger, and maybe one extra player - well then we would have been top 6 fighting for top 4.

However, now – with a toothless strike force and our one genuine wide/attacking threat is from a 17 year old rookie, and then Lucas gets injured again – well I’m not sure.

Personally, feeling fed up with football/LFC, I think we will be around 10th come xmas. We are going to struggle and we are only one or two injuries away from being in real trouble.

Then in Jan, we will struggle to bring the required quality needed and sign a okish striker that we no doubt will over pay for.

We might get our act together in the second half of the season and pull back some pride – oh and we will have the odd performances in big games that show we have ‘potential’

Overall I’d sadly, be quite relieved with the below, anything better would be a shock.

                      League – 8th
Europa – out at maybe qtr finals or round before
                      Fa cup – 5th round
                      Carling cup – final

Which is how Downing played all last season.

As soon as we start having mid-table expectations this great club will fade in obscurity

I think before the season had kicked off I'd have been expecting us to compete for a top four place this year. Not expecting us to get into the top four, but a challenge would've been an improvement.

I can't see it happening now though with a lack of goalscorers in our team. I just can't see where the goals are coming from.

My expectations for this year were 5th place at best and I'd probably have to slightly modify my projection to top 6 as imo we will be competiting with other 3 teams for 5th spot this year.

We failed to get a good striker in the last transfer window and we are only one injury or one suspension way from playing 18-year old and 17-year old kids as our only legitimate options until January, which will not help us short term.
