So Pacheco didn't impress you then? Sahin either? Assaidi either?
Pacheco done a lot of closing down, be he didnt get too much service. He seemed to be a little isolated

Sahin, played ok, but he is slow. Easy to see why he didnt get too much game time at RM, as him and Xabi would be disasterous together (pace wise)

Assaidi, played well, but nother really happened for him. He looked like he needs a few games to get his fitness levels up

Having said that, it was a makeshift team and apart from the defensive lapses it was a very good performance

It was a pleasant surprise to see 5 goals scored. I tipped 2-0 to us & I even thought that it may only be 1-0 but who in their right mind would think we'd score 5.

Carragher is far from finished - showed lack of match fitness but his awareness is still there, could step up to the main team when needed just needs games.

I think Carra struggled again, it's a bit sad seeing him trudge round the pitch fouling people all the time cos he can't get near them. Nothing against him, he's 34 or whatever so it's inevitable. I hope this season is his last.

agree he cant match many for pace but i can still see that edge when he plays and he gives a huge amount of advice to the guys around him

Coates is surely the 3rd pick CB now. He should start getting more game time to help integrate him with his teammates.

henderson had a decent game last night so some of us will be having an aneurysm

Generally i thought they were all decent apart from downing and enrique who really didnt produce again. Assaidi looks direct and a threat and suso looks decent too.

Wisdom looked very assured and coates played well too. doesnt seem to panic.

01 Jones 5. No glaring mistakes, but just not a good keeper.
03 Jose Enrique 4.5.Though he started brightly and looked good going forward but wasted too much possession and at fault for the goal.
16 Coates 6.5. Did ok, took goal well.
                  23 Carragher 5. Struggled
47 Wisdom 8. Played well and great goal.
04 Sahin 6. Tidy but not influential enough.
14 Henderson 7.5 Similar to sahin, but seen more of the ball.
19 Downing (Sterling - 77' ) 6. Few decent crosses, but box was usually empty.
11 Assaidi (Shelvey - 66' ) 6. Some nice touches, but generally quiet.
12 Pacheco (Borini - 61' Booked ) 5.5 A peripheral figure throughout, although worked hard.
                  30 Jesus Fernandez Saez
                  Substitutes
                  42 Gulacsi
                  22 Wilson
                  49 Robinson
                  31 Sterling 6. Didn't have enough time
                  33 Shelvey 9. Brilliant
                  29 Borini 7. Made a difference

Didn't think he was particularly good against Young Boys. In fact you could make an argument he was worse than Carragher (his goal excluded).

His mobility is becoming an issue. Likewise I would like to see this be his last full season. He should be forth placed in the pecking order and not kepping coates out of the matchday squad. However, if used in a coaching role, I dont see anything wrong with being able to play him as an emergency defender if we are decimated with injury

I think Carraghers mistakes were glaring - being beaten one on one but the pairing was hopeless. Coates often seemed to be marking no one and nowhere near areas of danger. To me he spent a lot of the match looking some what at sea and trying long passes out of defense that gave the ball straight back to Young Boys. I saw him a couple of time for Uruguay at the Olympics and he often seemed to switch off then - saw nothing to suggest improvement last night.

Not totally convinced by Coates either. That said he's still very young for a CB and he does have potential. The Europa League will be vital for him this season.

I think he has a past record of good play (i.e. for Uruguay at the Copa America) but I really think he needs games to iron out the kinks in his game. Hopefully Europa/League cup will give him that.

Just seems a lot of the analysis has an 'anyone but Carragher' quality to it.
