    I love Rafa, but....

Sometimes, i havent got the foggiest what he's on about...take this gem, for example:

A word on Craig Bellamy Rafa, how is his confidence after missing the penalty against Birmingham in midweek?

I say to him the same thing as I said to the rest of the players when we were not scoring goals and winning games. I said listen, we are professionals, and if you want to change something, you can't talk. You need to work harder and show people that you are good enough on the pitch. Next time he is in a position to try something, he must try. Otherwise he will not change anything.

    Yer wha???

No doubt some from the RCDNW brigade will claim this is some kind of masterstroke.

In reality it's a combination of poor man management and poor English.

Yeah waht Sara said, do your talking on the pitch, he hardly lsaughtered him for missing and told him the team winning was important, I doubt he used the exact word quoted in the origional piece, but im thinking his man management wasnt poor.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

I think the last couple of sentences point toward Bellamy shying away from doing things he's capable of because of his nerves, being too scared it won't come off - Rafa saying he has to put himself out there a bit and try them otherwise he won't regain his form. I think Bellamy needs to run with the ball at his feet more.

Getting to the stage where he is afraid to miss, seems a common thing at Liverpool through the past few years such is the expectation here.

Yes, hmm, as assertions go that invites no argument so please excuse me but what the f*** are you talking about, mate? Please understand I'm no expert when it comes to managing professional sportsmen so I'd be really grateful if you'd explain why it's poor man-management.
                  .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

He speaks good english but he talks in riddles a little. I am sure he does this in spanish too. He is very successful at talking to the press without saying anything, keeping his views in house. I don't mind this, it stops the tabloids scrabbling over every word he says like they do Mourinho.

You're just using the mention of rafa's name to have a cheap shot fella.

To be honest I rarely take any notice of what Rafa says to the press because he tells them nothing. He's a master at answering questions & making sure he doesn't give his true feelings away, in much the same way politicians do. When he is asked about any players performance he gives the same sort of answer, no matter how well or badly the player in question is actually playing. ie so & so must continue to work hard in training and if he does that will show in his performances on the pitch.

i'd love to be fluent in spanish and have a propper chat with him, he's a very interesting man. would love to understand him properly...

                            favorite rafa quote:

when we were on our winning streak last season, a reporter asked rafa if the jacket he was always wearing was his lucky jacked?

rafa replied: i have faith in my players no my jacket ****ing legend...

What purpose would it serve Rafa to tell the rags that he crapped all over Bellamy?

All he says is that he told Bellamy to work harder on the Field and carry on trying to score. What's wrong with that?

The worst thing Bellamy can do now is to start second guessing himself and over analyse everything he does.

A large percentage of a Striker's ability to score is between the ears. All strikers go through bad patches. You just have to ride the bad times out and keep working at your technique. Good man management doesnt mean blaming a player when they are off Form, It means helping them find their form and encouraging them to improve themselves. That's what Rafa did
