Shelvey has been making dangerous tackles for a while now but he somehow managed to get away with them until the Utd game. Today's game is so important I don't want to risk losing of it because of a hot head like Shelvey.

They do have few players in their lineup that can really hurt us.

Fellani, Jelavic, Mirallas can all create havoc.

They do but so do we Gerrard, Suarez, Sterling and Suso can cause some problems. Fully expect some rough house tactics but hopefully we keep our heads and have a strong ref.

seems like you don't like shelvey ....remember when gerrard used to make these kind of tackles ? this isn't a game for the purists nor has been for many seasons red cards are more certain than goals in these games now

Valid point but he really tried to shy away from any similar type of tackles since he was back from suspension.

Even in Anzhi game I noticed few times he was going to tackle the opposition in his old way and then realized that it's too dangerous and he backed away.

I think it's the right line up for this game, play to our strengths, I expect Shelvey to come on and provide some impact from the bench

Signs were there that Johnson will miss this one.

He doesn't get subbed after 45 minutes unless he had issues with some injury.

He walked very gingerly down the tunnel at half time against Anzhi, so I am not surprised he is not in the squad today

I do like Shelvey, think he's a decent enough player, it's just his temperament I worry about.

He's a big danger at set pieces/crosses from open play into the box, plus he can get stuck in. He's not a super star but he's probably their most dangerous player. On the flip side of that, he's ****ing dozy when he has to mark up in his own box, so Skrtel or Agger might get some joy at corners/freekicks.

Yes but the point I'm trying to make is that in the heat of a derby I doubt he could keep his emotions/impulses under control. Too risky IMO.
