Daniel Sturridge will not solve our defensive problems.

He won't all of a sudden make our midfield tight and competitive

He won't give us proper defensive shape

At least we has more possession today though. Good job Brendan.

        We lack.

Pace, control, technique, effort, strength and tactics.

Yes i know that but what has rodgers done that is any different to what we saw under kenny?

At this stage, tiredness. We're trying to pass it but the edge has gone off it today. Think maybe Rodgers should have started with Sterling and Henderson, but he's resting Sterling, so in short, we don't have the squad to play that many games.
            Are we winning?

Agreed, but the footballing culture of the club was severely compromised.

Rodgers doesn't seem to have any idea about defending. I can barely remember seeing any team so susceptible to the counter attack. Practically every time we lose the ball it's panic stations. I think he's naive. Am I allowed to say I don't think he's good enough to take us where we wanna go? Yes he deserves time to build something but I have little faith that he's up to the job. He's not even getting the basics right.

If there is progress then it's constantly undermined by our defensive weaknesses. How is it possible for us to get hit on the break every single time.

We're weak in body and weak in mind.
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

Would you care to compare the amount of money each has had to spend? There is absolutely no equivalent here.

                        This.

We have no option on the ball, no wingers stretching their defense giving us space to play in.. How can we control a game in 1/4 of the pitch? After waiting for them to press right up on top of us?

I was quite shocked by the fact we played the same team against such a physically imposing side as Stoke. It's not just strength they have but Stamina and tireless energy. We need to rotate the side. We played the same team in the space of 3 days. That said, the problem is, when you look at our bench, you have to worry.

The midfield were **** again, it's the most important area of the pitch and despite our attempts to play possession football we are unable to control the game. We seem to think that controlling the game is just about keeping the ball lots of backwards and sideways passes, but our midfield seems incapable of offering anything in an attacking sense.

Edit: How is it possible that our midfield can offer so little going forward but leave us so exposed at the back?

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I don't know about Sturridge but I don't think our problems are defensive. Incisiveness and being clinical are though, which is why he's targeting attacking players.
