Its probably something as simple as this:

He's so wary of getting injured he wont even try to push himself (pulling out of games/training) and then expecting to pick and choose when he plays. Klopp has probably told him thats not good enough and if he wants to play, he needs to do this 10 day routine but he keeps on flaking and pulling out of the routine.

Klopps obviously giving him until the end of the season to prove his fitness and his worth and be part of the team, but if he cant manage it he'll be up for sale like many others who wont make the grade.

Or Sturridge is still heartbroken over Suarez's departure and refuses to play again until he returns.
      Was muß, das muß.

To be fair I do the exact same thing. Strained shoulder blade muscle? I'm not moving for a month. Then again I'm not getting paid a stupid amount to lift my game.

            - he is currently suffering with what the team think is mild depression and has no interest in football whatsoever, hes lost his appetite and motivation to play and see's no other avenues but his faith in god. He doesnt want to be with the other players and has moved to distance himself from the dressing room. He wants to be alone where he can do his own thing and focus on the only thing that makes him happy.

The other players / management team cannot get through to him and nobody can understand why this is happening. They all think he's gone mad and the word that has been used is 'hermit'. He wont retire because he likes the money, but equally he knows that with klopp's 10 day training rule he has a way out, as long as he comes along and trains 3/4 days then has another week off he wont be asked to play. he wants to stay out of the limelight and prefers to be alone. The club are pushing him to play but he has absolutely no interest in doing so.

This layoff is definitely not injury related - the issues arent physical and the club dont know what the issue is.
I don't think this could be true. He is regularly seen watching the games from one of the corporate boxes. That doesn't look like someone who is walking away from football. The club would hardly force him to watch games.
I just think he is crocked, pure and simple.
Lets just go about our business like he isn't there and if he ever comes back fully fit we'll welcome him back with open arms with the caveat that he will inevitably break down again because that has been the pattern of his whole career.

This here is probably the most sensible conclusion and not because I posted something similar about 6 pages ago.
Sturridge has broken down that many times that he doesn't trust his body, slightest little niggle and he withdraws until he feels confident again.

We can only hope that he trains enough so 5,6 7 days then the odd day off again that when he comes back and plays he feels fitter, stronger and doesn't break down again.

Then he'll have the confidence to play regularly
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Sturridge, has been out since 6 December with a hamstring injury and will miss the FA Cup tie and Tuesday's match at Leicester.

Klopp said; "He is still working. Sometimes it's better, sometimes it's worse. He needs consistency in sessions and that's what we try to do.

"There's no doubt about his quality. We have to work together on his fitness."

Anyone been watching The Brain on BBC Four? I think we can say that the most likely route to success is in fact a transplant. Drop in Rocky Balboa's and he'll be up and running in no time.
