This is so much better than the Andy Carroll days. Its also potentially better than the Torres days, in that the only option available was N'gog. The front line is so much more adaptable now.

Pity about the midfield misfiring just now, but I still think thios team is a work in progress.
Definately, this is only Brendan's second season, he might need one or two transfer windows yet to complete his team IMO.

It's a nice bonus though that we are able to challenge for the top five while rebuilding the team.

Just imagine the dross we were served in the last years though, Poulsen, The Konk, Charlie Adam and Andy Carroll to name but few

If Sturridge had been the £35m signing and came in with performances and stats like he has now, nobody would be moaning at the price. It would be classed as a sound investment.

Its just a pity they didn't bring him in sooner - I wonder if that was a power play situation between Brendan, Ayre and the owners though, after the Dempsey debacle.

        Maybe he wasn't available sooner.
        Oh I don't know.

I'm obviously only going by hearsay here, but the talk around the time was that Brendan rejected the opportunity to sign him in the summer window before he was brought in during the January window. Apparently he wanted to monitor him, even though most of that period he was either benched or injured with niggles.

The purchase of Sturridge and Couthino for combined £20m has got to be some of the best business the club has ever done in terms of value for money.

Torres for £21m looked good at the time. But this is even better. Both now arguably worth twice what we paid.

I dont think people would think twice about classing them both as £20m+ players.

Sturridge (on current form) is as good as anything available to any team in the Premier League just now.

Its got to the point where I worry about internationals again, like I did during the Torres peak years

After this week there are no more until next year I dont think.

There is a weekend in November where we have no fixture and I think it coincides with CAF playoffs so probably a friendly fixture

Don't we have the playoffs in november? Two games home and away. England are not home and dry yet are they?

England won't have to worry about a play-off as we are going to finish 3rd

Since there's not much to talk about, and Arn's raised Sturridge's current world status credentials, probably a good time to ask:

Do you move to the edge of your seat when you see Sturridge with the ball? I do. Only certain players make/made me do that. Alonso, Torres, Suarez and a younger day Gerrard. Sometimes Coutinho.

But nearly always Sturridge, even when he receives the ball on the half way line.
                            One tit for another.

Nah, not me. I like Sturridge (I didn't want him initially, so he's making me eat my words), but I don't think he's world class. He's obviously **** hot and his scoring and assist stats are remarkable. However, I think he needs to do it over a sustained period of time. I think it's a conversation worth having come the end of May.

I'm starting to expect things from him but it's early days to compare the feeling of expectation from the likes of Suarez or Torres for example.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.
