The way took that goal last weekend after four - almost five months out was something else. He is a world class striker for me.

Been world class for a long while already. Just people don't want to see it. Fine by us, we don't get ridiculous offers from other clubs for him that way.

Utd fans are almost, but not quite, over their comparisons with Welbeck (give Welbeck a run in the middle they say/said). That's how under-rated he still is. Fck Welbeck he's pssing all over RvN and Aguero's records but that will fall on deaf ears/eyes.

The Reds are hitting their stride at the right time (if the season had started on Boxing Day Liverpool would be one point clear at the top) and the return of Sturridge will be a further boost as they hunt down the top four.

The former Chelsea man has now scored in five of his seven appearances as a Premier League substitute for Brendan Rodgers' side but, more importantly, his minutes per goal record at Liverpool (one every 110.9 mins) is the second best of any player at a single club in Premier League history. Only Alan Shearer (with a goal every 106.1 mins at Blackburn) has scored at a superior rate.

That means Sturridge is outscoring the likes of Sergio Aguero, Thierry Henry and Ruud van Nistelrooy, and if he can remain fit, (with his recent record that’s not a given), Sturridge gives Liverpool the sort of boost that other clubs are trying to achieve in the choppy waters of the January transfer window.

Does Shearers goal rate include penalties??

and shearers stats will also show a much better games per leg breaking challenge.

I'm not sure ive seen Sturridge take a penalty but I hope that he is good enough to be considered for next season. Would love to see him adding to his goal tally.

EDIT: Just remembered his penalty against Everton, missed out on his hat-trick

That penalty miss really knocked the stuffing out of that game, could have easily been another 2-3 goals if it went in.

Has he not missed a couple? He definitely hasn't looked good on penalty duty for us. I remember Gerrard let him hit one when we were winning comfortably to get his confidence up as he had a poor game and even though he scored, it was a poor pen IIRC.

Did he miss an insignificant one in a shoot out or a friendly?
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Missed one v Everton when 4-0 up after about 50 mins. Gerrard gave it him cos he was on a hat-trick. FFS. Should've been 8 or 9.

He played **** after the miss too, trying too hard to make up for it when he should have been passing and was rightly subbed.

Feels like that game was 1 goal away from being legendary.

                            Missed against City pre-season.

Anyone remember who he scored a pen against before I go looking?

Wasn't easy to find, but Swansea 5-0 he scored his pen.

What the search did show up is further confirmation that he is terrible at penalties, he's missed them at all levels.
